NFL players rip Cam Newton for his behavior at 2012 Pro Bowl

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton earned a Pro Bowl nod last year after a historic rookie season in which he ran for an NFL quarterback record 14 touchdowns. But while in Hawaii for the game, he did not earn the respect of his peers, according to CBSSports.com’s Pete Prisco.
Newton’s AFC opponents pressured and hit him more than the other NFC quarterbacks during the game because of his “standoffish, diva ways” throughout the weekend, Prisco writes. His actions included turning down one player’s request for an autograph and picture for his kids at a function.
“He was a total a–hole,” one AFC player said. “Who did he think he was? He acted like the big s–t. Here he was at his first game and he acted like he was the star. Guys didn’t like that.”
“Who the hell did he think they were?” said one player. “The only people around are families. He knew that. Yet he big-timed the guy by saying ‘now’s not the time.’”
That player said Newton did the unthinkable and even dissed Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.
“That’s the godfather there,” one player said. “Can you believe he did that?”
Said another player: “It didn’t matter who it was, he didn’t care about anybody but himself.”
Newton has posted similar numbers to his rookie campaign this season, including 14 touchdown passes, 524 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. But the Panthers are just 3-9 after going 6-10 last year, and Newton has been criticized for his poor body language and questionable leadership.
He's in the wrong league. Maybe, in the NBA, he can get away with it.
maturity comes later in life...for some people.
He "dissed" Ray Lewis. Oh, you mean the guy that watched another man get murdered in front of his own eyes and did nothing to stop it? I have even more respect now for Cam.
@g_yeah I'm sure Cam had that in mind when he did it. Especially since he was 11 years old when the trial happened.
@g_yeah Word. The NFL needs more people like Ray-Ray. So they can all get credit for a kill.
That's just for you, doubletrain.
you people really need to let it go, Ray was acquitted, just like OJ and there's nothing you can do about it. Let the brother be.
@g_yeah That was 12 years ago, dude. He was cleared and now he's a Hall of Famer. You and others act like he killed the victim. Let it go.
The problem with Newton is not talent...he has plenty of that...he has no CLASS...still pointing fingers after getting a first down like some wimpy-ass no talent wide receiver...a REAL QB doesn't act that way. A professional player SHOULDN'T do that...a true leader has no REASON to do that. So Cam is just an immature high school jock who hasn't grown up yet. You can't take the "hood" out of the boy. Man-up....act civilized and I'll treat you with respect...otherwise, you're just a PUNK!
tom brady did it a week ago
The next Vince Young.
Cam Newton and his father took the money at Aubarn, so he ois an established cheater and person of low moral character. He's just ghetto trash.
Newton (Hello Kitty) is assuredly one of the biggest diva's in the NFL, no doubt. Anyone that so obviously tries to pose for the cameras in his signature "Superman" move deserves all the crap he gets. But don't bring up Ray Lewis as the "godfather"! Are you kidding? Maybe Newton showed one bit of class by not having anything to do with the biggest overhyped thug in the NFL. Remember, he still has never handed over the suit he was wearing the night he most assuredly helped beat a man to death. He should be in prison.
@BudGrant2 ...and you have proof and knowledge of this? Overhyped thug? Don't believe everything you hear and read, friend. Has Lewis been in trouble with the law since? And do you understand how much of a leader and player he has been over the years and an ambassador? You may want to get your facts straight before commenting.
@doublejtrain68 Don't call me friend. Overhyped thug from thug U. Classic representative of that type. Why didn't he turn over the clothes he was wearing that night? Who cares if he's never been in trouble since. He may have even killed the guy himself but when you're rich and "famous" you get the best shylocks money can buy. 12 years ago or 112 years ago, no excuse. YOU might want to get his crank out' yo @$$ before you defend your boy. OVERhyped. THUG. We're done here. go away.
Well he seems to be getting his due reward from the NFL...
People like this are the last thing the NFL needs. Too many kids are growing up to be scumbags as it is. They don't need a "role-model' like this.
Cam is a punk. He has always been given everything on a silver platter and now that he is faced with some adversity he looks to blame all but himself. He is very bad for the league and hopefully one day he will grow up before he finds himself out of the league like JaMarcus
@davidfstiles YUP
I'm not a fan of the Panthers or the Redskins, just like I care little about Auburn or Baylor. What impressed me the most about RGIII was not so much his talent and achievements, but how he carries himself off the field. Last year after he won the Heisman and knew he wasp ready to cash in, he still went to the Baylor mens and women's games in the NCAA basketball tournaments. It showed me that it was important to him to be part of something. He probably got to know those men and women players as being part of The Baylor Athletic Department. He was going to support them because he got to know them and like them....this he didn't have to do. Cam Newton is a great player, but seems like a jerk. RGIII is a great player and a great kid. I call him kid, because I Am retired and have children 15 years older than him.
He is a jerk on the field too - his team sucks and he still does the Superman BS as well as the stupid first down signal - guy has no class and shouldnt be mentioned in the same breath as RG3
Maybe he'll do the NFL a favor and shoot himself also.
@fiskenmann I'm normally not a PC person, but that statement was uncalled for.
@fiskenmann Yeah dude too soon. Lets rephrase this. "Maybe he'll do the NFL a favor and shoot himself in the thigh at a nightclub after dropping his gun."
@fiskenmann Wow... too soon. Not cool.
@fiskenmann Man, you're a total and complete p-r-i-c-k.. Period@
@fiskenmann That's not cool....Newton may be classless but nobody deserves that comment.
@fiskenmann Terrible, horrible thing to say.
A couple of other guys dissed Ray Lewis once. ONCE!
what a bunch of cry babies
none of your business what he does or does not
@JoeyBagadoughnutz what a real mouthpiece you are punk....I personally don't give a rat's ass what you think...kiss my Georgia ass.
Cam is a Sham,Showboating has never paid off,not in the NFL anyways!!!
@DarrylCobble Cam the Sham...Good one, hope it sticks.
I want the gory details. How did he diss Ray Lewis and not get punched in the process?
@luvfoozball
Or stabbed!
Cam Newton will never win the big one, no matter how good the team is around him. He's a TO, but at the QB position. It means, he'll never live up to his potential, never make the HOF, and never be included in the talk about the greatest football players of all time. I have zero confidence that this will change. He's regressed already this year, Steve Smith basically was warning us all of his loser attitude. I'll enjoy watching him under-perform, and eventually disappear.
You are only as good as your team-mates allow. That said and not taking anything away from his talent and skills, his piss poor ghetto attitude will catch up with him. To put himself in the same league as Mr. Ray Lewis (fav player) who has established himself as one of the top respected players in the NFL is funny. The punk has balls.................
@BobBlandin
Cam doesn't have a ghetto attitude - he has a spoiled kid attitude. Maybe all Blacks with poor attitudes have "ghetto attitude" in your world . . . .
@BobBlandin Wait...when did being a diva and arrogant translate into "ghetto attitude?"
@CouldCareLess
Another one, did I strike an emotional issue, It was not meant as a racist remark, I am a white dude that happen top be brought up with-out funds from my drugged out parents, so chill it was'nt meant that way. Many of my buddies from the neighborhood, white ,black, toasted or pink, found themselves with quite the attitude if and when they made something of them selves, not millions like our topic ,but overly comfortable , I happened to do the same when I was told, I can't find a job. BS.
Now please my intent of the phrase was not even in my thought and if you think so ,still aftermy explaination, then thats a problem you should talk with a professional, its out of my pay range....
@BobBlandin Well, the funny part here is none of that rhetoric you just typed had anything to do with you equating being a diva and arrogance to being "ghetto." Then you follow it up with saying if I don't accept your explanation then I need to see a professional. That attitude and statement was one of arrogant so do you now consider yourself "ghetto?"
@BobBlandin Yeah, when is Lewis gonna tell the truth about what happened in Atlanta? Let me know when Newton is involved in a murder.
@LesterBallard66 @BobBlandin I mean good night folks, that was freakin' 12 years ago! Lewis was cleared and has been an ambassador for the NFL? He was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and people act like he committed the murder. He has been regretful and remorseful for being in that situation, and no one can let it go. It's ancient news, drop it already.
@LesterBallard66 @BobBlandin I thought Lewis already told the truth by becoming the prosecutions's witness. What else is there to know?
@BobBlandin @luvfoozball @LesterBallard66
I agree, Bob - Ray didn't appear to have anything to do with the stabbing deaths.
@luvfoozball @BobBlandin Plenty. What happened to his suit?
@luvfoozball @LesterBallard66
OK fellas', Until evidence of wrong doing is at the prosecutions desk, he was not, is not guilty of anything, therefore he did nothing wrong in ref to that issue,, with that said, I was referring to his carreer in the NFL. I hope you 2 are not a part of the flock and drinking the cool-aid over at Nancy Dis-Grace's bitch cave...................
Exactly the reason why I didnt want the Panthers to draft him. No one can question his athletic prowess, but even the guys on my team in college who knew him from high school and junior college said he was a prick. If no one appreciates your company and insight, its hard to gain their respect. Hopefully he grows up.
@DanP Agreed. I've been a Panthers fan since their inaugural season, but have since lost interest. Even if Newton becomes a 'fantasy' star, he'll never amount to a leader or a winner. RG3 proves that one can be athletic and an above-average QB at the same time. Netwon is stuck in the V. Young mold where he was drafted for his athleticism and potential. Not many QBs have translated raw potential into a successful career, and Scam Newton will be no different.
