Braylon Edwards on Jets’ woes: ‘Blame the idiots calling shots’

NFL

Quarterback Mark Sanchez has come under fire in New York for failing to live up to expectations with the 5-7 Jets, most  recently during a 97-yard, three-interception performance against the Cardinals. Sanchez was replaced by Greg McElroy in Sunday’s third quarter, and McElroy, a seventh-round pick in 2011, led the team to a 7-6 victory.

But former Jets receiver Braylon Edwards tweeted on Tuesday that Sanchez should not be blamed for the team’s struggles. Instead, Edwards, currently with the Seahawks, took an apparent shot at the Jets’ front office:

The tweet could be a reference to head coach Rex Ryan, general manager Mike Tannenbaum or owner Woody Johnson, as ProFootballTalk noted.

Hours later, Edwards, who played with Sanchez in 2009-10 and 2010-11, issued the following apology for the comments:

He was waived soon after, the Chicago Tribune‘s Brad Briggs reported.

The Jets are reportedly conflicted on which quarterback to start this week. Sources told The Star-Ledger‘s Conor Orr that a decision would be made no later than early Wednesday.

So, the players can't express their feelings against management without losing their jobs?  Is not even the management of his current team.  Are the players (highly paid) serfs?

I would say that 74 yds and 1 TD over 13 weeks is what lost him his job.  Running his mouth when he hasn't backed it up since 2010 doesn't help either

Sanchez might indeed PROBE it one of these days but he's a scrub who's destined for a backup role just like his U$C predecessors.
