Update: Wife says Powerball winner did not use numbers of Royals greats

MLB

UPDATE: Jeff Passan has tweeted that the wife of the Powerball winner who was originally reported to have used the numbers of former Royals greats actually chose his winning numbers at random:

One of the Powerball winners who lives in Dearborn, Mo., about 30 minutes north of Kansas City, chose his winning numbers using Kansas City Royals greats such as George Brett and Bo Jackson, according to two media members:

The winning numbers were: 5 (Brett), 16 (Jackson), 22 (Dennis Leonard), 23 (Mark Gubicza), 29 (Dan Quisenberry), and 6 for the powerball (Willie Wilson).

Ironically, the winner’s predicted lottery share is expected to be worth more than the $94 million owner David Glass paid for the team, as well as, the Royals’ anticipated 2013 total payroll of $70 million — and enough for a good down payment on the team estimated to be worth $354 million by Forbes.
