Gene Chizik fired as Auburn head coach

Two years ago, Gene Chizik led Auburn to the BCS national title. Today, he is out of a job. Chizik has been fired by Auburn University, one day after a 49-0 thrashing at the hands of rival Alabama.
Chizik’s firing brings an end to a miserable season for Tigers football. The team went 3-9 overall this season, including a winless record in the Southeastern Conference.
“I’m extremely disappointed with the way this season turned out and I apologize to the Auburn family and our team for what they have had to endure,” Chizik said. “In my 27 years of coaching, I have gained an understanding of the high expectations in this profession. When expectations are not met, I understand changes must be made.”
Chizik finishes his four-year stint at Auburn with a 33-19 overall record, including a 15-17 mark in the SEC.
