San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has informed starting quarterback Alex Smith that backup Colin Kaepernick will start Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints, reports SI.com.
A source tells SI.com that the decision is not based on health. Kaepernick completed 16 of 23 passes for 243 yards and two TDs and no interceptions in the 49ers’ 32-7 victory over the Chicago Bears on Monday night. It was Kaepernick’s first career start and Smith did not play due to a concussion suffered the previous week.
“I usually tend to go with the guy who has the hot hand,” Harbaugh said earlier in the week. “But we have two quarterbacks who have a hot hand.”
Kaepernick led the 49ers to scores on their first four possessions against the Bears to build a 20-0 lead and opened up a 27-0 cushion with a five-play, 62-yard touchdown drive to start the third quarter.

Alex Smith is our QB. He has not got a fair shake and he was GREAT last year and doing well now. Can't be perfect all the time.

LikeYoung qbs dont have good luck winning super bowls in their first year as a starter. Kap hasnt even started the full year. Tom Brady is one exception, but i dont think lightning like that will strike twice.

LikeDon't think the Saints care who they start. Either one is in trouble. The 49ers are starting him because they know Smith don't have a shot. He's not mobile enough but it doesn't matter the Saints expected this move from jump street.

LikeKennyHernandez So Smith doesnt have a shot like in that last postseason game when he played against NO??? Not mobile enough like when he ran in that 25yd TD against NO in January???
Dont post ridiculous comments like this. It just shows your lack of knowlege about the game of football.

LikeKennyHernandez How do those eggs feel on your face?.
Seems to me the only ones in trouble today were Brees and his crew.

LikeGood decision. Kaepernick is good and has more upside than Alex Smith. 49ers now SBowl favorites IMO.

Likestabmasterarson21 Ridiculous.. Kaepernick is going to get drilled eventually. See vick, see V young, see Cam Newton.. These QBs just dont work in the NFL.

LikeRobLong stabmasterarson21 You are ridiculous. Kaepernick is a pocket QB, and he only runs on called plays or when really necessary.
