USC’s backup QB guarantees a win over No. 1 Notre Dame

Why is the back-up QB for USC the week of the Notre Dame game on a ESPN radio show to begin with? Poor coaching out in LAla land!

Come on, SI. Try quoting accurately.

Did anyone actually HEAR his comments? It was not said in any tone like SI is trying to convey. However, what SC needs to get back to is saying exactly what they will do, and go out and do it!

Notre Dame has only allowed ONE touchdown to an opponent all year where a drive started before the opponent's 40 yard line. Incredible.

I did not see the word "guarantee" in his comments.

I am sure that his dim-witted coach that is running the SC program into the ground, wishes he did not make this comment.

I don't think ND needs additional motivation to win this game.  Marquise Lee and Robert Wood are USC's only chance.  They have no defense, a quarterback who hasn't really played since high school, and nothing to play for.  Some teams relish a spoiler role, but USC isn't one of those teams.  Historically, when it underachieves, its players start to feel sorry for themselves and they play like crap.

To the morons of the sports world who are giving this kid a hard time, get your head out of your ass and actually think for a moment.

Was he supposed to say - "yeah, we are going to get our asses kicked all over the place". There is nothing wrong with what he said whatsoever. And hey, if 4 - 7 Pitt only needed a field goal to beat Notre Dame, its it not out of this world to think USC doesn't have a shot.

Manti is going to be an absolute beast in this game against the school he spurned when he found his spiritual home at Notre Dame. He won't let this moment get away. He will be all over the field and cement the Heisman. I can't wait to witness this.

I love it,  a redshirt freshman QB talking smack. Just enough to really get the juices flowing in messers Nix, Tuitt, Te'o etc. I can't wait to see them rip this guy's head off. This could get real ugly. Hey Wittek, please make sure you have a good health insurance policy!

In sports, anything can happen. USC is not a super great team, but they are not bad either. If Baylor can beat K State, certainly it is not outside the realm of all possibility that USC could win. This would be especially true if ND plays up tight, and self destructs, above all, turns the ball over and screws up in the red zone. That is the surest formula for a loss to a lesser team. You only get so many trips inside that red zone, and especially inside the 10 yard line. If you don't score TDs, it comes back to bite you. ND almost lost to Pitt because they could not score after getting inside the 5 yard line. Turned it over in the end zone in OT. Against USC, on the road, they simply cannot make those kinds of errors. Must play the way they did against Oklahoma.

I love the misleading headline.  He said we are going to win this ballgame as all players should. The headline suggests that he literally used the word "guarantee" in conjunction with his "we're going to win this ballgame."  That has a whole different feel.  Nice try but this isn't whiteboard material.
