Former teammate of Andrew Bynum says no other NBA player likes basketball less

NBA

Andrew Bynum reportedly further injured his knee while bowling and may be out until January. One former player said, “I’ve never met another player in the league who likes basketball less.” (David Dow/Getty Images)

Sixers All-Star center Andrew Bynum has received criticism for further injuring his knee while bowling, and a former teammate told a SLAM Magazine editor the Sixers center wasn’t too keen on basketball, according to CBS Sports.

“I don’t know if that’s true [the bowling], but I do know that I’ve never met another player in the league who likes basketball less [than Bynum],” the former player told SLAM Magazine senior editor Tzvi Twersky.

Bynum, who went to the Sixers as part of the four-team trade that sent Dwight Howard to the Lakers in August, has yet to play in a game this season. The 7-year veteran has had problems in both knees–he received Orthokine therapy injections in September and then later developed a bone bruise that sidetracked the recovery. On Friday, Bynum said that he had suffered another “setback” with his left knee. Later, it was revealed that the “setback” occurred while bowling.

Bynum has since received criticism for going bowling while unable to play or practice with the team, and a former teammate of Andrew Bynum Certain activities such as rock climbing, boxing and riding on mopeds are prohibited in NBA player contracts, but bowling is not one of them.

The setback could keep Bynum out until January. He averaged 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game with the Lakers last year.

Dude, you have to get a life. I thought ESPN users were bad and immature, but this Josh Green kid takes the cake.

This guy is a straight up thug, that's all.  He's always been, and will always will be.  No sense of professionalism.

Supposedly, his dad, who  is also quite tall, didn't like basketball either. Like father, like son.

Bynum is like an old Shaq, fat and injury prone.  Shaq also hurt himself while bowling when he was with the Celtics!

Bynum was a bust in LA and will be the same undisciplined, lazy loser in Philly. He obviously enjoys getting paid to ride the wood. What a poor choice for the Sixers.

Is Bynum really hurt???  If he was still in LA, I bet he would've played every single regular season game.  What's really happening here?  Are the Lakers spreading their cheating ways to the east coast by paying or telling Bynum to fake an injury to hurt the 76ers???  Wow.  That's a new low for the lakers.  At least the 76ers got Richardson in that deal.

The question isn't whether he "likes" his sport. It's whether he "likes" to prepare and do what is neccesary to squeeze out every drop of talent and effort into his craft. We all know the answer to that

Sorry Philly, as a Laker fan who has watched Bynum since he came into the league, I was thrilled when we traded him. He has loads of talent, but is a major head case. Not to mention those bad knees of his that had Laker fans on the edge of their seats every time he jumped. Hopefully he will get his act and his knees togather, if not b prepared for much more random drama from this guy.

Do not why pro basketball players seems a tad too irresponsible and spoiled compared with other pro sports. Maybe baseball too. Rate this is going, will make other fans lose interest in the sport.

I don't think bynum would go through unorthodox methods to fix his knees if he didn't like basketball. "Former player" sounds like some bitter clown (Adam Morrison?) who's never getting the money & attention that Bynum gets

Who cares whether or not he likes Basketball ?

You don't necessarily need to like your work to do it well (though of course it's easier when you do !).

And I don't see how that get mixed up with his bowling. For chrissakes if bowling is considered of limit in rehab, then pretty much everything is.

@JoshuaGreenfarb -     Genius, eh?   Because the Lakers knew that their number one threat in the league was ...the Philadelphia 76ers.  They HAD to be stopped.  By any means necessary.

@esgalan2     How does anyone injure his/her self by bowling???  With just a llittle stretching, I could bowl a one-person 10-frame game right now without taking a break.  And I'm out of shape.  Hehe.  I could bowl 10 frames consecutively real fast.  Hell, I could probably get out of this chair, go to the bowling alley, and bowl 3 consecutive games without one break ... and not get injured.  Something is very suspicious here.  I'm not a super athlete, am I???  ROFLMAO!!

@DirtyPantiesLover1   Panda Express is GOOD!!  Rice is healthy, in case you didn't know.  By the way, I have never milked any systems, as you word it.  I've applied for many jobs and still want to work.  If they don't hire me, it's the employers' fault, not mine.  Consider that for a millisecond.  Plus, I have a legitimate Schizophrenia disability, with years of documented medical proof.  If that means, I get on disability, then so be it.  If not, then so be it.  You can't assume other people "milk systems."  Can you?  I assume good in people.  How come you don't?  My philosophy is:  always do the right thing to find a niche in this world, and you'll have nothing to worry about.  I'm willing to die for that belief.  I don't care about money or "milking systems."  That's ridiculous and arrogant, to think like that.  I hate Laker fans -- they're so arrogant and full of themselves.  Hehe.  Since you seem to know personal things about me, let's start laying all the cards on the table before you go judging other people.  Let's start here.  You want to delve into my personal history?  I am a US Army veteran and proud of it.  Maybe I wasn't good enough to make the military a career, but I tried my best.  If I could not succeed because of a mental disorder (which is the case) and I eventually get put on disability, then so be it.  I always want to represent what it means to be an honourable, good soldier.  I always want to have nothing but respect for things like the military.  Thus, what you may fail to realize is this:  you assume things about me in negative ways so go right ahead.  I ask you this:  do you treat all military veterans in the same way?  "DirtyPantiesLover1."  I question your patriotism for this great country.  Do you treat all disabled veterans accusationally like this?  If you do, you can take your disloyal, sophomorically arrogant ways ... shine it up real nice ... turn it sideways ... and stick it straight up your unpatriotic candy ass!!!

@DirtyPantiesLover1  Hehe.  Okay, even for my rather vitriolic (that's a word, right?) blogging trash-talking, that's pretty harsh.  The differential is definitely unbalanced, when the middle class makes an average of what?  $20,000 to $75,000 per person/household.  Unfortunately, Obama won't really be able to close that differential much, although he's at least trying his best.  That's why I voted for him.  I think the time-travelers failed their mission when they used a time machine to go back in time to fix the space-time continuum where the universe altered badly by skewing off on a Downward-Spiralistic tangent!

JoshuaGreenfarb

@MichaelPhillips    I admit I'm stretching the conspiracy theory too far.  However, what I was trying to say/write was that the Lakers don't want a former player like Bynum to have an all-star caliber year with the 76ers.  Why?  They want to make it look like the acquisition of Dwight Howard was such a fantastic deal.  Making Bynum not play is the Lakers' hopes of making it seem like adding Howard was such a huge gain (which it wasn't).  Replacing Bynum with Howard (so far this season) hasn't been an upgrade AT ALL.  Howard looks like a Bynum-clone.  Except (to state the obvious) that Howard is not a 7-footer like Bynum (Howard is only like 6'8") and Howard is a horrendous free-throw shooter.  Otherwise, he's like a Bynum-clone.  The current Laker deal is they like to praise anyone who puts on a Laker uniform and absolutely chastise anyone who no longer wears a Laker uniform.  That is extremely arrogant and smug -- some of the reasons why I don't like the Lakers.  I may have liked them in the past, but not now.  The current Lakers will try to screw you over if you make a deal with them.  They'll try to make it seem like former players they traded are pieces of trash.  When in actuality, this season's Lakers are the REAL pieces of trash.  They're trying to hide Howard's minor injury by saying, "Hey look, got an injured Howard, but we traded an even more injured Bynum."  See what I'm saying?  Bynum was NOT injured before they traded him for Howard in that multi-team deal.  Get it?  Suddenly, he gets traded to the 76ers.  SUDDENLY, BYNUM'S NOW HURT CRITICIALLY TO THE POINT HE CAN'T PLAY AT ALL.  What a load of horse-manure.  Give me a break.  If the 76ers knew Bynum was hurt this badly, they wouldn't have participated in that multi-team deal.  Why get Andrew Bynum if he can't play a single game???  Very very very very very very suspicious.  If I see it, how do you (Mikey Phillips) NOT see it?????

Hmmmm, maybe 'drew Bynum was drinking and bowling.  In actuality, people shouldn't do that.  It can be dangerous.  Bynum needs to start slow -- try bumper bowling and a really light ball that's named "Connie" in order to avoid critical injury.  Haha.  Just kidding.  But not really.

To paraphrase the LEGENDARY movie "Office Space":  Our high-school guidance counselor used to ask us what we would do if we have a million dollars, and inevitably, that was supposed to be your career.

Whatever it may be, for the right reasons, as long as it's not absolutely nothing.  Everyone should have something they like to do, eh?  If you want to be a ping-pong Champion, then go for it!  If you try to champion being a champion of something, then that's good enough in my book.  Hell, these pro athletes can get paid millions to try to be a Champion in their respective sport.  Hell, CM Punk has been WWE Champion for 365 consecutive days!!  He is building a future hall-of-fame career!!!  If it were up to me, everyone (except maybe criminals) would get paid millions of dollars!!  Millions of dollars!!  Millions of dollars!!

@amoeba2315    Well, I didn't mean I'll kick his ass literally.  Goofing around.  If they want to get personal and disrespect me, sometimes I will simply reflect back at them.  Period.  If you don't like that, I could care less.  Talking about the anti-psychotic medication I have to take is not cool.  I don't talk about nor care about their personal lives.  See what I mean?  Don't take their side in this.  What are you?  A Laker fan too?  But whatever.  Yah, sorry about the "buttbreath" name-calling.  I got it from Police Academy (at the beginning of the movie where the customer calls Mahoney "buttbreath").  I always thought that was funny as hell.  But whatever.

@JoshuaGreenfarb  @michaelhaydenbell  Just because people have different opinions or think your conspiracies are far out their doesnt mean you should say Ill kick your ass or you have butbreath! I mean serious how mature is that. The lakers moved on once they ditched Andrew and could care less if he becomes great, but the writing was on the wall that he was a horrible teammate and that he was injury prone. I really dont think he needs the lakers to make him look bad.

@MichaelPhillips    By the way, the Lakers try to screw over others that trade with them or whatnot.  But guess what?  They screwed themselves by trading away many future first round picks and whatnot.  Oh yeah!  Their future looks extremely bleak.  Maybe they should move the team to Seattle, Las Vegas, or Kansas City.  Kansas City used to have an NBA team, right?  Kansas City Kings?  That's partly why the Lakers got so desperate after a 1-4 start.  They know they need to get in the playoffs now because they will not be able to in the future.  They know if they don't make the playoffs this season (which is what I'm cheering for [hahahaha]), then certain teams will have the Laker 1st round lottery draft picks!!!!  C'mon, fail Lakers!!  Fail, so other teams can get more lottery picks!!!  By the way, why does the NBA need two teams in LA (that play in the same arena)???  That sucks.  Let's get another city a chance at having an NBA team.  "Dear God."  I think Howard will leave LA Lakers after this season.  If he's smart, he will request it, at least.  Howard won't want to be part of the sinking ship.  Remember that cool christmas-special dribbling commercial??  Howard would rather play with Carmelo Anthony, Joe Johnson, Russell Westbrook, or Dwayne Wade.  He'd rather play for the Knicks, Nets, Thunder, or Heat.  Or maybe Dallas.  Heh.

"Details are still a bit murky."  What the hell does that mean?  Did Bynum even have this knee procedure done?  I think I saw somewhere on the internet that Bynum's doctor won't even release more detailed information on the knee procedure.  Or something like that.  Interesting.  ;-)

JoshuaGreenfarb
JoshuaGreenfarb

@amoeba2315   Damn, son.  You need to do some fact-checking before you go spouting off.  Just kidding.  Question:  why did Bynum wait until September to have this procedure done?  Why did he wait till AFTER he was traded to the 76ers?  Why Andrew Why?  If he was still in LA, would he have done this procedure and risk not being ready to start this season?  Interesting.  He was still expected to be ready for the start of training camp in October.  Interesting.  Now, we're getting reports that Bynum will be out indefinitely.  Interesting.  Has he played in any games this season?  You do know the season ended in June after the Finals, right?  He waits until September to have this procedure done?  Hmmmm, interesting.  After he finds out he's traded to the 76ers, SUDDENLY he has to have this knee procedure done.  And now he's using that as an excuse for not being able to play.  Now, of course, I could be wrong.  Hell, I hope I'm wrong.  But, I'm still suspicious that Bynum is faking the severity level of this injury.  By the way, I don't care if you're 8 feet tall.  Bowling is manipulating a ball that has the maximum weight of 16 pounds.  If you're so injured that you can't even do that, then yeah it was foolish on his part to bowl.  But come on.  You really believe he injured himself more from bowling?  Can't you see it's just more excuses being made up because Bynum apparently does not want to play for 76ers?  Why not just roll the bowling ball with two hands between your legs?  Then you won't have to bend down so far.  Whatever.  By the way, during his last game with the Lakers in the playoffs against OKC, Bynum looked fine to me.  That's why he didn't need this knee procedure done.  He was probably looking forward to playing for the Lakers again.  When he finds out he's traded to the 76ers ... SUDDENLY he HAS TO have this knee procedure.  Yeah right.  Give me a break.  Really?  Really?  Really?

JoshuaGreenfarb
JoshuaGreenfarb

@amoeba2315   FACT CHECK!  I had to check on that.  It states Bynum had a "precautionary non-invasive knee procedure in early September." "While details are still a bit murky, it is expected that this won't hold Bynum back from being ready for the start of training camp in October. Bynum had a breakout season last year, but he's had well-documented issues of staying healthy over his career. We wouldn't knock him down any of your pre-draft rankings just yet." (Source:  http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nba/184426/andrew-bynum-to-have-knee-surgery-in-germany).

amoeba2315
amoeba2315

@JoshuaGreenfarb  @MichaelPhillips Actually Andrew had knew surgery right after the season of last year so yeah he was pretty injured. Again Andrew or no player would fake for this long with so many people out there to prove it wrong and when he is due to get a new contract.  Oh and the dude is 7 ft so he would have to bend alot lower to bowl which probably messed up his knee more which was very stupid on his part.

JoshuaGreenfarb
