Report: Davey Johnson and Nationals agree to new deal
Nationals manager Davey Johnson has worked out a new contract with the Nationals, reports Jon Heyman of CBSsports.com. Johnson was signed for 2013 and 2014 as a consultant; after the new contract is finalized, he will enter his second full season with the team as manager.
Johnson led the Nationals to a 98-win season and the NL East title, and he is favored to win NL Manager-of-the-Year. The 69-year-old manager boasts a 1,286-995 career record.
The contract is still being ironed out and no details were immediately available. Johnson cited “unfinished business” with the Nationals back in October, saying he hoped to return for one more season. After 2013, Johnson expects to retire, reports the Washington Post.
