Report: Auburn president preparing for Gene Chizik’s possible firing

Multiple sources told 247Sports.com (subscription link) that Auburn president Jay Gogue has informed some members of the university’s Board of Trustrees he is preparing to possibly fire football coach Gene Chizik.

The reports says Gogue is preparing to form a committee to oversee the possible removal of Chizik and to help find and hire his successor “within days after the end of the season should the decision be made that Chizik will not be retained.”

The website reports that Louisville offensive coordinator Shawn Watson has been mentioned as a possible candidate.

Gogue reportedly also told some board members that he plans to retain athletics director Jay Jacobs, but reassign executive associate athletics director Tim Jackson, who oversees football.

Auburn is 2-7 and 0-6 in SEC play in a season that Chizik said has included some “OK” moments” — just two years after winning the national championship.

At Auburns first game, and loss,  i predicted a 9 loss, 3 win season, and they are right on track.. in fact, with Ala. a&m only the last game, they might win to get to the 3 wins, before the upcoming loss to Ala., They could go 2 wins and 10 losses, and so why is anyone discussing waiting to year end.. let Chizak go now.  and All their football coaches.  Why keep bs. He should have been fired  after the first 2 games.. come on, The players mope, don't run onto or off the field, walk with heads down... A real coach would inspire... Keeping the atl. director is no good, Chizak shouldnot have been hired in the first place.  and he has proven that.

People seriously...Edward14 is not an Alabama fan or an SEC fan. He's GeorgeKaplan the Notre Dame fan (and the same guy that cannot win an argument so he calls people names). = TROLL

Seems Johnny Manziel has derailed the run to the title for Bama. I told many Bama Fans the game they needed to sweat the most was Texas A&M. They all laughed at me. No one is laughing now. Johnny Football lit it up on Bama's defense. As did LSU. As far as Auburn is concerned Malzahn would be great pick for the head man. He recruited most of the offense and he runs the heck out of the spread. Arkansas State took Louisiana Monroe apart last night in Monroe. Auburn beat them in overtime and big Brother Razorbacks lost to the. Gus works as hard as Saban and he has won everywhere he has gone.

Did I seriously just read that a Shawn Watson has been mentioned as a possible candidate?  Good luck with that Auburn.  Maybe you should have hired Paul Rhodes instead of swapping defensive coordinators with Iowa State.  It appears Auburn might be an SEC whipping post for a few more years.

What a terrible hire from the get-go.  He'd done NOTHING at ISU.  But now he's won a national championship with Cam Newton just like Mack Brown did with Vince Young----but neither guy can coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

Cheatin Chizak sold his soul to the Devil which was Cecil Newton the fake Pastor and the son of Satan. Glad to see Cheatin Gene get fired as he deserved it.

Uh, is anyone surprised?  How did Chizik get the job in the first place, his record at Iowa State was HORRIBLE!  And the guy before him and after him had MUCH better records.

AU needs a new AD ( a puppet) and just clean house.  Considering the way Coach Tubberville was treated by the AD and the Board (after he laid the ground work which lead to the National Championship that Chizik took credit)..change is over due. Otherwise, AU rightly is on the receiving end of the "Tubberville Curse."

@MikeEvans Unless Kstate or Oregon loses....an SEC Champ Bama heads to the BCS before an undefeated ND. As a Bama fan, I'm ok with it, at least it wasn't Auburn, LSU, or UT, and it won't happen next year. I can deal with 5 losses in 4 years.

@Edward14 You can't even spell...Alabama obviously isn't into academics, or as you say "acudemics". And "wheres"  and "domenate"  ?? Do you mean where as and dominate?  If you are going to to show your ignorance, perhaps you should keep it to yourself and your close circle of friends and away from the light of day... adn avoid public derision!!!

@Edward14  Did you actually just write "domenate" and "acudemics"? You may cheer for Alabama, but I certainly hope you have not graduated from there, because that would just be sad.

@stabmasterarson21 Auburn has talent. They recruited several high school 4 and 5 star recruits. The problem is they leave Auburn as 4 and 5 star high school recruits. While at Alabama 4 and 5 star high school recruits leave as 1st and 2nd round draft picks.

@jarob54 A lot of Auburn's problems is indeed related to Malzahn, lack thereof.  And Arkansas State, which was already pretty solid due to what Hugh Freeze built there, is rolling w/ Malzahn.  If I were Arky Malzahn would be at the top of my list.

I don't know about Petrino though.  That's a pretty volatile situation to hire that guy so soon after that bonehead move he pulled.  I think a more desperate program takes him....but I guess Auburn might be desperate looking at how far they've fallen.  The guy above is absolutely correct, they screwed Tuberville over big-time and actually Petrino interviewed for the job there while Tuberville had it.  So get ready for some ugly karma, Auburn, if you hire the doofus.

@Edward14 Though I agree with you, jpostel, if you're going to nail somebody for his or her grammar or spelling,  you may want to make sure that you have no unnecessary commas.  Would you put a comma here?

"I cried because the movie was sad."

Nope.

This is essentially the same structure as your sentence.

There is no need for your comma before your word "because."

So, don't be a spelling or grammar nazi to someone unless you have your high and mighty internet ducks in a row.

@stabmasterarson21  We shall see how desperate Auburn becomes after the Alabama game. Petrino can coach, and he can recruit. Auburn will, I believe cut Chizik loose and attempt to go after a big name coach. Petrino has baggage, but Auburn is in complete disarray Petrino knows the league, and can be a quicker fix to the problem than most. Arkansas will I believe go after Malzahn. And I believe Malzahn will take the job. Does  Sly Croom get back into the league at Kentucky?  He is a better than average coach and Kentucky is a not a better than average job. I see these open jobs as a recycling theme. But I'm no expert on the subject, trust me. I predicted Alabama would steam roll LSU and Romney would do the same to Obama.

@DavidCollins  @Edward14 David - I hardly consider the two infractions equal.  A misplaced comma is not in the same league as 'acudemics'.  Come on now!
