Blake Griffin to reportedly sign with Jordan Brand
The Los Angeles Clippers’ franchise power forward Blake Griffin will reportedly sign a deal with Jordan Brand, according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports. An official announcement is expected soon, according to Berger.
The two-time All-Star, now entering his third NBA season after a knee injury that kept him out his rookie year, debuted a pair of cobalt blue Jordans on Wednesday evening as the Clippers tipped off their season with a win at home against the Memphis Grizzlies. Griffin’s teammate, point guard Chris Paul, is also part of the Jordan Brand. Carmelo Anthony, Ray Allen and Joe Johnson are also part of the brand, as is Russell Westbrook who joined in early October.
Despite deals with a number of NBA stars, Jordan Brand did see an end to its relationship with Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade, who left the company shortly before the season in favor of Chinese shoe company, Li-Ning. Wade is now Chief Brand Officer of the Chinese-based company.
Griffin’s signing is yet another major deal for the high-flying forward, who signed a five-year contract extension worth $95 million with the Clippers in July. Paul declined a three-year, $60 million extension with the Clippers during the offseason, paving the way for him to become a restricted free agent July 2013.
