A brawl during the Bengals-Raiders game last Sunday resulted in five players getting fined. After a Raiders defensive lineman Lamarr Houston took a shot at Bengals quarterback Dalton for a false start. Bengals’ Andrew Whitworth defended his teammate, and a fight erupted between Whitworth and Raiders Houston, Desmond Bryant, Tommy Kelly and Matt Saughnessy.

Dalton said afterward that he appreciated Whitworth letting the opposing linemen know they couldn’t take a cheap shot at the Bengals quarterback.

Neither Bryant nor Shaughnessy were flagged on the play, but still received the $26,250 fine–the minimum for a first offense for fighting.

Raiders running back Darren McFadden could be returning after missing three games with an ankle sprain. McFadden was able to practice this week but is currently listed as questionable. Coach Dennis Allen said McFadden will be a game time decision. The running back was non-committal when interviewed by reporters on Friday.

“I’m just working hard,” McFadden said, via Paul Gutierrez of CSNBayArea.com. “Whatever happens when Sunday gets here, I’m going to roll with it.”

There’s some speculation that the Raiders might finally activate Terrelle Pryor this Sunday. Defensive tackle Richard Seymour is out again and running back Mike Goodson also looks like a game-time call.

Clay Matthews will not be playing for the Packers against the Lions this weekend, but Greg Jennings is listed as probable.

Matthews has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury. While making progress in rehab, the linebacker did not participate in practice all week. Coach McCarthy said he is making progress, but isn’t quite ready yet.

Jennings is finally looking healthy and ready, having participated in practice all week. He suffered a torn abdominal muscle that required surgery and missed a total of seven games.

Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin.com tweeted this in regards to Jennings’ playing time prospects:

Ben Roethlisberger will play no part in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Sunday game against the Baltimore Ravens. The team officially ruled the quarterback out today due to his continuing recovery from injuries suffered in the team’s Monday night win over the Chiefs two weeks ago.

According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, Charlie Batch will take over the starting job.

The Steelers have lost both games in Roesthlisberger’s absence, including one to the Ravens at Heinz field in Pittsburgh. The Ravens currently sit at 9-2 in first place in the AFC North and are riding a four-game winning streak. A loss would drop the 6-5 Steelers to a .500 record that could jeopardize the team’s place in the playoffs.

Lions receiver Titus Young returned to practice for the Detroit Lions this week after his team-imposed suspension, but one of his teammates remains frustrated (to say the least) about the receiver’s actions that led to the absence.

Speaking to The Detroit News’ Chris McCosky, Lions center spoke out about Young’s petulant attitude, which included the receiver intentionally lining up in the wrong spot and verbally clashing with Lions receivers coach Shawn Jefferson in the teams’ Week 11 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Raiola’s comments, via McCosky’s Twitter feed:

Young has 33 receptions and four touchdown catches on the year, with an average of over 11 yards per catch.

Love hasn’t lost a step since his return from a broken hand nine days ago. The forward is averaging 23 points and 15 rebounds in five games since his return. However, the Timberwolves are still struggling, holding a 6-8 record that puts them fourth in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference. It is not known if Love will play a role tonight or when he will be able to return to action.

The Los Angeles Angels have traded right-hander Jordan Walden to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for fellow righty Tommy Hanson, according to reports from CBSsports.com’s Jon Heyman and Danny Knobler

Only a few years ago, Hanson was considered to be a top prospect in the BRaves’ farm system, but his production dropped off last season, when he was also placed on the disabled list with a strained back. Hanson’s ERA has climbed in each of his four years in the majors, reaching a high of 4.48 last season.

A reliever, Walden also suffered an off-year in 2012 after an All-Star appearance in 2011.

The Cincinnati Bengals resurgent run could be hitting a snag. Head coach Marvin Lewis told Bengals.com’s Geoff Hobson today that rookie wide receiver Mohamed Sanu could miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his left foot.

The loss looms especially large for the Bengals, who have relied on Sanu’s increasingly-impressive performances throughout their ongoing three-game win streak. Sanu has caught a touchdown pass in each of the last three games, including two in last week’s 34-10 win over the Oakland Raiders. This after the rookie struggled to get on the field through the first six weeks of the season.

Lewis said Sanu will have surgery on Monday.

While the Dodgers have made headlines in their pursuit of free-agent pitcher Zack Greinke, another team may have improved its position to make a run at Greinke, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

The Nationals’ smart move to acquire Denard Span for pitching prospect Alex Meyer solved GM Mike Rizzo’s long-running center field fixation, improved them in left field with phenom Bryce Harper moving there and covered them at first base with Mike Morse ready to move there in case Adam LaRoche leaves for the Red Sox or someone else via free agency.

But the Span trade did something more, it saved the Nationals millions because it meant they weren’t going to be in the market for Michael Bourn, who they also liked as a center field option. (Ultimately, Span made more sense for the Nats, too, because top center field prospect Brian Goodwin is expected to be ready in two years.

The Rangers are still considered to be a serious contender for Greinke, but the Angels, who have worked hard in an attempt to retain the pitcher they traded for during last year’ pennant chase, maybe out of luck. Danny Knobler reported on CBSSports.com, that the Angels appear to be an “unlikely” winner in a race that includes three other “determined and wealthy teams with fewer financial constrictions” bidding for Greinke.

The Nats have chased Greinke before.

The Nats love Greinke. They tried hard to trade at least a trio of fine young players, possibly including pitcher Jordan Zimmermann, reliever Drew Storen and infielder Danny Espinosa, and to give Greinke a $100-million deal two years ago before Greinke said no. Greinke told me this summer he rejected the Nationals only because he didn’t think they would win, and he appeared to have some misgivings about that call as Washington was en route to the best record in the majors.

UPDATE: Jeff Passan has tweeted that the wife of the Powerball winner who was originally reported to have used the numbers of former Royals greats actually chose his winning numbers at random:

One of the Powerball winners who lives in Dearborn, Mo., about 30 minutes north of Kansas City, chose his winning numbers using Kansas City Royals greats such as George Brett and Bo Jackson, according to two media members:

The winning numbers were: 5 (Brett), 16 (Jackson), 22 (Dennis Leonard), 23 (Mark Gubicza), 29 (Dan Quisenberry), and 6 for the powerball (Willie Wilson).

Ironically, the winner’s predicted lottery share is expected to be worth more than the $94 million owner David Glass paid for the team, as well as, the Royals’ anticipated 2013 total payroll of $70 million — and enough for a good down payment on the team estimated to be worth $354 million by Forbes.

Colin Kaepernick’s sudden rise to 49ers starting quarterback has dropped an avalanche of unanticipated attention on the second-year player — and his parents aren’t happy about some of it.

Kaepernick’s tattoo-covered arms recently drew criticism from Sporting News columnist David Whitley, who wrote:

San Francisco’s Colin Kaepernick is going to be a big-time NFL quarterback. That must make the guys in San Quentin happy…

…NFL quarterback is the ultimate position of influence and responsibility. He is the CEO of a high-profile organization, and you don’t want your CEO to look like he just got paroled.

Rick and Teresa Kaepernick, Colin’s adoptive parents told USA Today they were aggravated by Whitley’s comparing their son to inmates.

“It annoyed me,” Teresa said. “You are categorizing this kid on something like tattoos? Really? Saying other guys are role models because they don’t have them? Really? Some of these other guys don’t have crystal clear reputations. That’s how you’re going to define this kid? It’s pretty irritating, but it is what it is.”

Colin’s parents would like to set the record straight: Their son is a 4.0 high school student who’s never been arrested. While they admittedly weren’t excited about Colin’s decision to get his tattoos while playing at Nevada, they agreed that he was old enough to make his own decisions.

And those controversial tattoos? Those are Bible verses inscribed on Colin’s biceps.

“Colin’s a fairly religious kid, but he’s not in your face about it,” Rick said. “It’s more about him and what he believes.”

    Decrease fontDecrease font
    Enlarge fontEnlarge font

Is Jon Gruden mulling over an offer to coach at Tennessee? Or has he already passed without receiving an offer?

Gruden’s flirtation with Tennessee is done according to a report by Jimmy Hyams of WNML AM/FM in Knoxville, Tenn.

Hyams’ report contradicts a Friday morning report from the Chattanooga Times Free Press that Gruden is indeed considering an offer from the school.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press has learned from sources close to the process that Super Bowl-winning coach Jon Gruden has been extended an offer to succeed Derek Dooley.

Sources confirmed that while details are still being negotiated, the university’s offer is very lucrative and there is no firm deadline on a decision.

Gruden’s decision likely will hinge on the money the school is willing to pay for his potential staff, the sources say.

According to the Times Free Press, rumors began to surface late Wednesday afternoon that talks had broken down and that Gruden was no longer a candidate for the job.

However, according to Times Free Press sources, that is not the case. As of Thursday evening, Gruden had weighed an offer but countered that more money would be needed for the staff he is assembling.

On Wednesday, Gruden denied rumors that Tennessee’s offer included an ownership share in the Cleveland Browns, courtesy of new Browns owner Jimmy Haslam – brother of Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam, whose father, Jim Haslam, played on Tennessee’s 1951 national championship team and has donated millions of dollars to the university.

Gruden has long been considered a top candidate, even prior to Tennessee’s firing of coach Derek Dooley on Nov. 20.

Veteran free agent Mickael Pietrus will sign a one-year deal with the Toronto Raptors, USA Today’s Sam Amick reported on Thursday.

Mutual interest from both Pietrus and the Raptors had been building. The Los Angeles Lakers had also reportedly been interested in Pietrus, who had declined to accept a minimum-salary offer from other teams.

Pietrus played last season in Boston with the Celtics, where he averaged 6.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He is a career 35.7 percent shooter from 3-point range, so he should help a Toronto offense that ranks just 19th in 3-point shooting.

At just 3-13, the Raptors are already eight games back of Atlantic Division-leading Brooklyn and New York.

USC defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin will resign from his position after the school’s bowl game to “pursue opportunities in the NFL,” the program announced Thursday night via Twitter.

Kiffin has coached the Trojans’ defense for the past three seasons under his son, head coach Lane Kiffin. He came under increased scrutiny late in the season, as USC struggled down the stretch. In the midst of a 1-4 end to the season, the Trojans defense gave up a program-record 62 points in a loss to Oregon. USC ranked just 63rd in total defense this season.

CBS’ Bruce Feldman reported recently that a consulting job in Seattle could be a potential NFL landing spot for the elder Kiffin.

    Decrease fontDecrease font
    Enlarge fontEnlarge font

Bringing the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service into the NHL-NHLPA labor negotiations has failed to make a dent in the league’s 75-day-old lockout.

Two days of meetings with third-party mediators uncovered no common ground and brought the NHL and NHLPA back to their existing labor stalemate.

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly addressed the mediation process on behalf of the league:

“Today, we concluded two days of mediation with FMCS mediators and representatives of the NHL Players’ Association.  After spending several hours with both sides over two days, the presiding mediators concluded that the parties remained far apart, and that no progress toward a resolution could be made through further mediation at this point in time.  We are disappointed that the mediation process was not successful.”

Shortly after learning that mediation had not been a success, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman reportedly suggested a players-owners meeting as a possible way to break the labor gridlock.

The lack of mediation success may not immediately further shorten a season that’s already seen the cancellation of games through Dec. 14, the Winter Classic, and the All-Star weekend in Columbus, Ohio in January.

    Decrease fontDecrease font
    Enlarge fontEnlarge font

Thursday night’s marquee nationally televised Spurs-Heat game will be lacking much of San Antonio’s star power, possibly because Spurs coach Gregg Popovich wants to send a message to NBA commissioner David Stern.

Popovich has sent four of his top five leading scorers home to San Antonio. Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Danny Green did not travel with the team following Wednesday night’s win in Orlando. The quartet will get an extra day of rest prior to Saturday’s home game against Southwest Division contender Memphis.

Popovich bemoaned the most demanding November road schedule in team history prior to the Orlando game.

“We’re getting tired,” Popovich said. “We’ve had a six-day trip and a 10-day trip. Usually you don’t have that in one month.”

Less than 24 hours later, the ripples of Popovich’s decision will be felt all the way to the offices — and ratings book — of TNT and the NBA.

The absence of Duncan, Parker, Ginobili and Green means the Spurs — who are already missing injured small forward Kawhi Leonard and Stephen Jackson — will tip off against the defending NBA champions with nine players.

Alex Smith addressed his demotion to backup quarterback with the media Thursday for the first time since 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh named Colin Kaepernick the team’s starter.

“I mean, it sucks,” Smith said. “I don’t know what else to say. “I feel like the only thing I did to lose my job was get a concussion.”

Smith was knocked out in the first quarter of the 49ers Nov. 11 game against the Rams, and diagnosed with a concussion. In his absence, he lost his starting job to second-year backup Kaepernick, despite producing a 19-5-1 record since Harbaugh was hired in 2011.

Smith went on to say that he does not regret telling doctors that he had blurred vision and other concussion symptoms.

“No, I’m not looking back on that — no, no.”

Does he think his demotion will cause other players to conceal concussion symptoms?

“I don’t know. It’s a good question. I’m not sure. I mean, that’s kind of the deal with all injuries. The thing with the concussions and the brain, I think we’re going to be finding out a lot more in the years to come.”

Fights broke out during the second day of the viewing of deceased Puerto Rican boxer Hector “Macho” Camacho, reports ESPN.

Cynthia Castillo, who claimed to be Camacho’s girlfriend at the time of his death, kissed the fighter at the viewing and then got into a confrontation with Gloria Fernandez, who said she had been Camacho’s girlfriend for the past 25 years. Camacho’s sisters Esther and Estrella also entered the fray.

“I went to get something to eat because Machito [Hector Camacho Jr.] told me to, and his ex-girlfriend [Fernandez] came up to me and told me that I had to leave,” Castillo told ESPN Deportes, showing a fresh scratch across her clavicle. “I said no, so they threw my plate of food and attacked me, and I defended myself.”

Jorge Lozada, who said he was a member of the Camacho family, allegedly tried to separate Camacho’s mother, Maria Matias, and the wife of former bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez. Pushing and shoving also occurred between Lozada and Vazquez.

Camacho won super lightweight, lightweight and junior welterweight world titles in the 1980s. He was shot on Nov. 20 in his hometown of Bayamon and died three days later after doctors took him off life support. He was 50 at the time.

The viewing took place at the Puerto Rico Department of Sports and Recreation, and hundreds of people visited Camacho’s open casket for two days. His body was flown to New York on Thursday and will be buried at Saint Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx on Saturday.

The Royals are in the hunt for a No. 1 starter for their rotation and have talked to the Mets about Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey, reports CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman.

The Mets would prefer to keep Dickey on a two-year extension, and the 38-year-old knuckleballer reportedly hopes to sign a new deal that goes beyond the $5 million on his contract for 2013. But if the team did trade him, they would want a catcher and outfield.

While several young Royals players would work for the Mets, Kansas City has no interest in trading young catcher Salvador Perez and isn’t looking to trade top outfield prospect Wil Myers. The Royals would prefer to send the Mets a package of younger prospects in any Dickey deal.

The Royals have also been looking at Jon Lester and James Shields to bolster their rotation. (The team’s starters ranked 26th in the MLB in ERA last season with a 5.01 mark.)

“Our rotation is going to [be] better, but we’re still looking for the opportunity to improve on what we’ve done,” Royals GM Dayton Moore said.

Dickey went 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA with the Mets last season. Although Lester’s numbers (9-14, 4.82 ERA) and Shields’s (15-10, 3.52) weren’t as impressive, the two are much younger than Dickey–28 and 30, respectively–and may be a better fit for the Royals.

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has already topped Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning in at least one area: NFL jersey sales. The rookie now has the league’s top selling jersey, according to a report from Darren Rovell of ESPN.com, citing a league report of sales from NFLShop.com from April 2012 to Nov. 27.

New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow fell to No. 8 after being ranked near the top of previous sales reports since the trade in March that sent him packing from the Denver Broncos. Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu ranked No. 9 in sales despite playing in only two games this season because of a lingering calf injury.

Houston Texans defensive end, J.J. Watt, who had never been in the top 25, is now No. 17 in jersey sales. The Texans and the Falcons are tied for the best record in the league with a record of 10-1, but the Falcons don’t have a single player on the list. The Redskins, by contrast, are 5-6 entering Week 13.

Tony Romo, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, experienced the biggest drop in jersey sales, going from No. 14 according to the list in October to No. 20 for sales ending Nov. 27.

The NBA released its own list of top selling jerseys from April to November, with The Miami Heat’s LeBron James and the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant owning the top two spots, respectively.

    NFL’s top-selling jerseys (April 1 – Nov. 27):

    1. Robert Griffin III Redskins
    2. Peyton Manning Broncos
    3. Aaron Rodgers Packers
    4. Eli Manning Giants
    5. Tom Brady Patriots
    6. Andrew Luck Colts
    7. Victor Cruz Giants
    8. Tim Tebow Jets

Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall said that in addition to NFL players taking Adderall to gain a competitive edge, he has seen some players resort to Viagra in order to excel on the field, according to Brad Biggs of The Chicago Tribune. The story has also been acknowledged by NFL.com.

“I’m fortunate enough to be blessed with size and some smarts to give me my edge. But some guys, they’ll do whatever they can to get an edge. I’ve heard of some crazy stories. I’ve heard (of) guys using, like, Viagra, seriously. Because the blood is supposedly thin, some crazy stuff. So, you know, it’s kind of scary with some of these chemicals that are in some of these things so you have to be careful.”

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Louis Murphy was arrested in April 2011 when he was a member of the Oakland Raiders for possessing a “non-labeled prescription bottle containing 11 individual pills later identified as Viagra,” according to a report from The Gainseville Sun.

As an article on Thursday from Fox Sports points out, Viagra could soon become the next performance enhancing drug to be banned by the NFL as the league continues to seek an influx of suspensions resulting from PED’s, namely from Adderall:

One benefit of Viagra and similar drugs would be the enhanced delivery of oxygen to the muscles, which also aids in hastening the body’s recovery from workouts. The drug also counteracts impotence, a frequent side-effect of steroid usage.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick failed his concussion test on Wednesday and will be out Sunday as the team looks to avenge its Week 10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, according to a report from the Eagles and a tweet from Jeff McLane, Eagles beat reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The news only confirms what fans had been hearing all week; head coach Andy Reid had hinted during a press conference that Nick Foles wold make his third NFL start this Sunday in Dallas. According to the report released by the team, Vick has not been cleared to practice as the result of the failed concussion test:

Vick has made substantial progress since suffering a concussion in the Week 10 game against Dallas. He returned to meetings last week and took part in throwing sessions over the weekend. Passing the ImPACT test, which compares current a player’s current state to baseline, is one of the final hurdles that Vick needs to clear before he can fully return to action.

In the previous home game against Dallas, Foles, a rookie, came off the bench and recorded 219 yards, completing 22-of-32 pass attempts with one touchdown and an interception. The Eagles ended up losing 38-23.

Former LSU defensive back and Heisman Trophy finalist Tyrann Mathieu will reportedly declare for the NFL Draft on Thursday, according to Joe Schad of ESPN.com.

Mathieu, 20, was dismissed from the Tigers in August after failing a drug test. He entered a rehab program which was run by former NBA player and coach John Lucas, but was arrested in October because of marijuana possession. At the time of his dismissal, it was unclear whether he would transfer to another school to continue playing football or remain at LSU.

Mathieu, the recipient of the Bednarik Award last season, which goes to the nation’s No. 1 defensive player, opted to remain at LSU to concentrate on his academics and moving past drugs, and initially said he planned on returning to the team the following season. LSU Athletic Director Bo Bahnsen later said that Mathieu is “permanently ineligible” to play football at LSU again.

He is widely believed to be a first-round pick in the NFL Draft, though his repeated failed drug tests will likely factor into the decision-making for a team looking to select him.

  • Amar’e Stoudemire reportedly fine with bench role for Knicks

When Amar’e Stoudemire signed a five-year, $100 million deal with the New York Knicks in 2010, it was widely expected that he would be an integral building block in leading the team back to relevancy.

Two years and many missed games later, the former six-time All-Star said he is reportedly fine with coming off the bench if that’s what it will take to help the Knicks win.

Citing an unnamed source who has been around Stoudemire regularly in recent weeks, Ian Begley of ESPN.com reports that Stoudemire, 30, would accept a sixth man role as the Knicks continue to win with a relatively small line-up that often features Carmelo Anthony at power forward and Jason Kidd at shooting guard.

“All he cares about right now is helping the team and winning. He’d be fine with coming off the bench if that’s what they want. [H]e just wants to win. He sees how well they’re playing and just wants to help. He’ll be fine with whatever they want to do.”

The Knicks have also reportedly said that they are reluctant to take Kidd out of the line-up to make room for a bigger starting five that would feature Stoudemire.

He is coming off a year marred by injuries and unfortunate circumstances, from the death of his brother to a hand injury that he sustained after punching the glass around a fire extinguisher after a loss to the Miami Heat in the playoffs. In the preseason, Stoudemire, who underwent microfracture knee surgery in 2005, suffered yet another injury to his knee that will keep him from making his season debut for at least another two weeks. In his 47 games last season, he averaged 17.5 points and 7.8 rebounds in 32 minutes per game, his worst season statistically since his rookie year with the Phoenix Suns in 2002.

Stoudemire typically scores his points off pick-and-rolls, in isolation plays and jumpers from the elbow. Anthony and Tyson Chandler have already proven to be a winning formula in playing together and are a more potent duo than Stoudemire demonstrated in playing alongside Anthony last season. Chandler and multiple other players and coaches have been quick to admit that Anthony is a nightmare match-up for most power forwards because of his size and agility.

The Knicks, currently 10-4, know the precarious situation in which they would find themselves should they insert Stoudemire back into the starting line-up. The hopes of him becoming the franchise player when the team brought him over from the Suns are now long gone. Instead, the Knicks, now the oldest team in NBA history, may be the owner of the most expensive Sixth Man of the Year in league history.

The Dallas Mavericks will get some help at point guard soon, as head coach Rick Carlisle announced that the team will sign veteran Derek Fisher on Thursday, according to multiple reports on Twitter.

Fisher had reportedly been on the hunt for a new team after helping the Oklahome City Thunder to the NBA Finals last year, but only wanted to sign with a team he felt could contend for an NBA title. The Mavericks failed to lure hometown hero Deron Williams away from the Nets over the summer while also losing veteran Jason Kidd to the New York Knicks. The team currently has just one true point guard (Darren Collison) on its roster.

The signing will see Fisher take part in his 16th season as a pro, a career that has seen him win five NBA championships.

UPDATE: Video of the incident below:

The Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics engaged in a shoving match involving significant portions of both teams late in the second quarter of their game Wednesday night – one that saw Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo and Nets forwards Kris Humpries and Gerald Wallace ejected from the game.

The altercation began when Celtics power forward Kevin Garnett drove to the basket, defended by Humphries. Humphries jumped to block Garnett’s shot, fouling Garnett and knocking him to the ground in the process. Rondo took exception the the foul, shoving Humphries into the seats underneath the basket after the foul was called. From there it was a free-for-all, with Garnett and Wallace entangled, and multiple other players jostling with one another.

In the end, Humphries and Wallace were both assessed second technical fouls, while Rondo was ejected outright.

  • Steve Blake to miss two more weeks with abdominal strain

The Los Angeles Lakers’ issues at point guard won’t be getting better as soon as they thought. Having already missed eight games with the injury, Steve Blake tweeted today that he will be out an additional two weeks with an abdominal strain.

Blake was slated to be a solid backup to two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash in the leadup to the Lakers’ 2012-2013 season, but the team’s nightmare start included both going down with injuries. Los Angeles has filled the void with Darius Morris as the starter and Chris Duhon as the backup, but neither has impressed in the role so far – Morris in particular has struggled, going 0-for-6 in Tuesday’s game against the Indiana Pacers.

With no timetable on Nash’s recovery from a broken fibula and Blake’s latest setback, the duo will continue to be challenged heading into a tough part of the Lakers’ schedule that includes games against the Nuggets, Rockets and Knicks.

The San Diego Chargers added a new face to their receiving corps today, and it’s the same one they released a matter of weeks ago.

Micheal Spurlock was claimed off waivers by the Chargers today, according to an announcement by the team. Spurlock signed with the Chargers in the off-season and served as the team’s backup punt returner for the first four weeks of the regular season. Spurlock was released on October 3rd and signed with the Jaguars two days later.

In Jacksonville, Spurlock saw more time at wide receiver, amassing 14 receptions for 121 yards in six games with the team. Spurlock could be back returning punts for the Chargers as soon as this week if primary return man Eddie Royal misses a second consecutive game due to injury.
