Orioles decline $11 million option on Mark Reynolds
The Baltimore Orioles declined third baseman Mark Reynolds’ $11 million team option for next season, the team announced Wednesday.
Reynolds will receive a $500,000 buyout and remains under team control because of the arbitration process. The Orioles have until Nov. 30 to decide whether to sign him to a contract for 2013.
Reynolds batted .221 with 23 home runs, 69 RBI in his second season with the club and struck out 159 times in 457 at-bats. Reynolds played his first four seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, striking out 200 or more times in three of those seasons including a major league record of 223 in 2009.
