Lawson and the Nuggets were inching closer to a deal that would keep the 25-year-old point guard with the team for years to come, according to a report Tuesday morning from David Aldridge of NBA.com.
A report from the Journal-Times earlier this week had some in the league speculating on the Nuggets offering Lawson a four-year deal in the neighborhood of $45 million.
The Nuggets had until the Oct. 31 deadline to sign draft picks from the 2009 class.
Lawson averaged 16.4 points and 6.6 assists last seasons, his third with the Nuggets, that ended with a Game-7 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs.
