Report: NHL to cancel Winter Classic this week

The NHL Lockout has already resulted in the cancellation of 326 games from the regular season schedule. Now, according to a report from ESPN, that total could grow by one – the Winter Classic.
The annual outdoor game has become an NHL staple since the league introduced it in 2008. The event has been the league’s highest-rated regular season contest, with viewership numbers similar to that of the Stanley Cup. This season’s contest is set to be the first that involves a Canadian team, with the Detroit Red Wings taking on the Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
o just die already NHL. you are the laughing stock of the sporting world. Nascar and Soccer are more popular in the US. It is a true shame, such a great sport. Horrible league

LikeWait a minute.....first to involve a Canadian team? I'm pretty sure Calgary and Montreal are both still in Canada. Annnndddd I'm pretty sure they played at McMahon Stadium in Calgary in 2011.

LikeYou have to wonder how these owners made enough money to buy teams when they are this dumb. They made their own problems. The players have every expectation to be paid what they signerd the contract for. The owners forced this deal on the union and all we can see now is greed. Without the players the NHL is nothing. When the lockout is over I hope fans in NHL cities don't buy tickets and make sure the owners know why. Everyone else can not buy merchandise unless the players are getting a fare share of revenues from the merchandise sales.

LikeI packed away all NHL hockey stuff in a box last week to give to my grandkids as a memory in years....I now have a birthday flight to michigan with no hockey to watch.....I'm done with the NHL

Likeguintz Take your Grand-kids to any arena in Michigan...... you will see good hockey from pee-wee up to college. I don't understand how the NHL (Players and Owners) can be so arrogant to think they are all that and a bag of chips! I'm with you.... done with NHL!
