There is at least one position that is settled with the New York Yankees for next season.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Alex Rodriguez will be the team’s starting third baseman in 2013, reports ESPN.com.

Girardi benched Rodriguez for three of the Yankees’ nine postseason games, including the decisive win over the Orioles in the ALDS and the Game 4 loss to the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS.

“I expect Alex to be our everyday third baseman,” Girardi said. “What is he going to have to show me? That he is healthy and ready to go. I’m always worried about whatever move I make — how it affects the club, how it affects the player, how it affects anything.

Rodriguez had a horrible postseason, going 0 for 18 with 12 strikeouts against right-handed pitchers. Rodriguez did not homer in his at last 93 at-bats, dating back to the regular season. Rodriguez’s replacement, Eric Chavez, did not have a hit in the postseason.
