Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant will not play in the team’s final two preseason games because of an injured right foot, the team announced Wednesday.
Bryant will be re-evaluated over the weekend and his status for the Lakers’ season opener Oct. 30 against the Dallas Mavericks is unknown. Bryant strained the foot in the third quarter of Sunday’s 99-92 preseason loss on Sunday to the Sacramento Kings and was listed as day-t0-day.
“They told me it was day to day and when they tell me it’s day to day, that means that, in my opinion, at any day he can be released to play again,” said Lakers coach Mike Brown. “I’ll just wait for them to clear him and then he’ll be playing again.”
Bryant described the injury as painful said he wouldn’t play Wednesday against Los Angeles Clippers, even if it were a regular-season game. The Lakers are 0-6 this preseason.
