Yankees Derek Jeter has ankle surgery
New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter underwent surgery to repair a broken left ankle and is expected to be out for four to five months, the team announced on Saturday.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C. and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said about Jeter’s recovery, “He’ll be ready when he’s ready.”
Jeter fractured his ankle trying to field a ground ball in the 12th inning of Game 1 of the American League Championship Series. The Yankees were swept out of the playoffs by the Detroit Tigers.
Jeter hit .333 this postseason and during the regular season he batted .316 with 15 home runs and 58 RBIs.
