Report: Browns GM Tom Heckert thinks he is next to get fired
Amid new Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam announcing that team president Mike Holmgren will leave at the end of the season, at least one other executive thinks his job is next on the chopping block as well.
Multiple sources told FOXSportsOhio.com that Browns general manger Tom Heckert has told people close to him that he believes he’ll lose his position with the team at the end of the season, and that Heckert was making calls to friends around the league as early as August about potentially landing on another team’s personnel staff in 2013.
Haslam said Tuesday that he had a “great visit” with Heckert and his team on Sunday. Heckert has spent the last two seasons as the Browns’ GM and before that was in the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins organizations.
“So everybody is aware of the situation. I didn’t tell them any different than anything I said today. This is the only change we’re making,” Haslam said. “We’re only making it so that we have a good transition. And everybody else will be evaluated the end of the year.”
Joe Banner will take over on Oct. 25 as the new team president.
