Miguel Cabrera wins first batting triple crown since 1967
History has been made at the close of the 2012 MLB season.
The Detroit Tigers’ Miguel cabrerea became the first player since the Red Sox’s Carl Yastrzemski to win the Triple Crown, meaning he led the Major League in three statistical categories.
Cabrera finished the 2012 regular season with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs, and 139 RBIs, tops in all three categories. According to an ESPN report, Cabrera left the Tigers’ game against the Kansas City Royals in the 4th inning with the historic title all but secure. Despite the game taking place in Kansas City, Cabrera left to a standing ovation from the pro-Royals crowd.
