New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes is out for the season after being placed on injured reserve with a Lisfranc injury in his left foot that will require surgery, reports NFL.com.
Holmes, the team’s leading receiver, sustained the injury in the fourth quarter of the Jets 34-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. It’s the same injury that caused Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub to miss significant time last season, including the team’s playoff run to the AFC Divisional Round.
“It does check the resolve of your team,” Jets head coach Rex Ryan said.
Holmes has 20 receptions for 272 yards and one touchdown this season. The Jets signed Jason Hill today to fill a roster spot and also have receivers Jeremy Kerley, rookie Stephen Hill, Chaz Schilens and veteran Clyde Gates. The Jets offense has scored only two touchdowns in the last 12-plus quarters.
