Jets fear Santonio Holmes may be out for the season
Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes may be out for the season, according to ProFootball Talk’s Josh Alper. Holmes suffered a foot injury during the team’s 34-0 loss to the 49ers on Sunday and underwent X-rays and an MRI. The results of the X-rays were negative, although he was expected to miss at least a few weeks. Now, the team fears that may turn into the rest of the season.
The New York Daily News’ Jets reporter, Manish Mehta, tweeted:
As the Jets await word on Santonio Holmes, the feeling in organization is that he will be lost for the season with a foot injury. #nyj—

According to Mehta, the team is unlikely to bring back Plaxico Burress to replace Homes:
Regardless of how long Holmes will be out, Jets feel bringing back Plaxico Burress would hamper Sanchez. Highly unlikely they would sign him—

Prior to the injury, the seven-year veteran had 20 receptions for 272 yards and one touchdown.
