Nebraska AD Tom Osborne announces retirement
Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne announced his retirement during a press conference Wednesday, reports ESPN.com.
Osborne’s retirement is effective on Jan. 1, 2013.
Cornnation.com reports that Osborne’s expected replacement is Dr. Jamie Williams, who returned to the Nebraska Athletic Department this year after spending six years as the athletic director at Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Williams played for Osborne and spent 12 seasons in the NFL.
Osborne, 75, was hired in October 2007 after previous athletic director Steve Pederson was fired. Osborne spent 25 seasons as the Cornhuskers head football coach, coaching the team to national championships in 1994, 1995 and 1997.
