John Fox, Jack Del Rio fined $55,000 for berating replacement refs

A duo of Denver Broncos coaches have been fined for verbally abusing and intimidating the replacement officials that called the team’s Monday Night Football game one week ago. In total, the fines amount to $55,000.

The fines come shortly after the NFL issued a memo warning coaches to stop bullying the referees that have replaces those normally used in NFL games or face further action. Outbursts aimed at the officials for missed called or badly-managed games have been one of the storylines of the season so far, with Patriots head coach Bill Bellichick grabbing one in the aftermath of last night’s edition of Monday Night Football.

If the NFL can fine enough coaches, et al, then maybe they can use the money to pay the real refs.
