Andy Reid: Michael Vick is starter ‘right now,’ but ‘we’ll evaluate it as we go’

Andy Reid offered a non-committal response when asked Monday if he would think about changing starting quarterbacks, giving a half-hearted endorsement of starter Michael Vick.

“Right now, we’re with Michael and that’s what we’re doing,” Reid said Monday after the Eagles’ 27-6 loss at Arizona, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. “We’ll evaluate it as we go.”

Vick has struggled this season despite the Eagles’ 2-1 start, completing 55 percent of his passes while throwing six interceptions (which leads the NFL) to just three touchdowns. He has a quarterback rating of 66.3, well below his career rating. Nick Foles, a rookie out of Arizona, is currently listed as the backup on the Eagles depth chart.

Later on his radio show, Reid later tried to clear up his earlier response, saying that Vick was the team’s starter, “period.”

“Michael’s our quarterback, period. Michael’s our quarterback,” Reid said. “Listen: Does he need to get better, and do we all need to get better? Yes, and we’re going to do that. So that’s what we’re going to work on starting Wednesday.”

Vick sits in the pocket waaaay too long - leading to hits on him, forced passes, and fumbles.  I don't know if he takes too long going through his reads or if he is just trying to stretch plays too long, but if he can't make decisions faster and get rid of the ball, the Eagles are going to end the year below .500.

Vick is done. He's been hit and injured so much he's running scared. Yes, he has 2 wins but by a total of 2 points, not impressive. One more game like the last 3 and Reid will have to go to Foles....or Andy might be done in Philly.

I'm a Vick fan but I might just be strating to loose faith, Reid too. He may have had quite a lot of sucess with the Eagles, but we want a Superbowl already. And not just taking part in it either.

Yes we have O-Line issues at the moment but Vick needs to get rid of the ball quicker, and realise that throwing the ball away is a GOOD thing.

Also can anyone tell me why we are not using Shady until he literally can't carry/catch anymore. He is the best all round back in tghe league IMO.

@dolphfin85 If there's any fan base that doesn't deserve to know what a championship feels like, it's Philly.  Show some class for a change.

Shady's carries and TD's are off pace because Jason Peters is out.  I'm not saying Shady isn't great, but any back is better when he has the best LT in the game blocking guys 20 yards upfield.  Just watch some youtube videos of Peters blowing guys up.  It's just sick what he can do.  There are some good players on the Eagles O line but once your best tackle is out, it puts more pressure on everyone else.  And so far, the Eagles O Line has not done a great job compensating.  But then again, how could you compensate for someone like JP?  Blame also goes to Mornhenwig, who is notoriously bad at adjusting his schemes when things aren't working.  They have got to accept the fact that Shady is not going to get the kind of carries behind King Dunlap or Demetress Bell that he got behind Peters, and figure out how to get him the ball in space.  I'd suggest looking at some old film from the Westbrook era, and trying more short passes while our big TE's block.

Couldn't agree with you more about Peters, the man is a beast!!!

Didn't even consider Mornhenwig until now that you've mentioned it. If I'm honest I'm a fan in the UK(6yr fan now) and I don't really know enough about the sport yet to go into intricate details but without doubt Peters is a beast!
