Dusty Baker may return Friday after suffering irregular heartbeat

Reds manager Dusty Baker may return on Friday after suffering from an irregular heartbeat, according to a report from the team. Baker, 63, was admitted to a Chicago hospital two hours before Wednesday’s game against the Cubs and underwent several tests.

“He’s in doing another test. We should get results on that fairly shortly,” [bench coach Chris] Speier said before Thursday’s game. “It all looks good. I think the plan is to probably wait to see what the results of that test are.”

Cubs manager Dale Sveum sent well-wishes Baker’s way:

“All our prayers go out to [Baker], and I hope everything’s good for Dusty. He’s a great guy, and the rest of this year will be important for him to be around and healthy.”

Baker had just reached a career milestone, managing his 3,000th career game on Tuesday. He ranks 19th on the alltime list and has a 1,574-1,426 (.525) record.
