Joe Namath slams Tim Tebow, again

joe willie's a party animal---he hates tebow and his views--no surprise.  Mark is a crazy man at the NY clubs---the chicks want him and joe wants to be like him.

Joe Namath's career spanned 13 years in the NFL. In 2 of those 13 years did he ever throw more TDs than Ints. Year 1 he had 18 TDs & 15 Ints. Year 5 he had 19 TDs and 17 Ints. The other 11 years he had more interceptions than TDs. In year 3 he threw 26 TDs but had 28 Ints. Career TDs-173, Interceptions-220; 47 more interceptions than TDs. Joe Namath is a dried out old drunk who cannot deal with being a nobody at 70 years old. Namath has no wife no woman 2 wild unmarried daughters with illegitimate kids dumped on him and mooching off old Joe. Joe Namath is nothing but a mess and an angry  drunken old fool who cannot deal with no-one caring what the senile old goat has to say about anything. Namath played 45 years ago big deal.

Come on, Joe, quit dragging yourself in the mud, and, give the kid a break! Hey, he is not going to get better unless he plays; an, we cannot find that out the way things are. Last time he did that consistently, he took the Denver Broncos on a run to the playoffs! I might add, he had a better winning percentage with the Broncos, than his replacement currently has! Now, he has been a class act in the way he is handling his current punishing isolation from any meaningful participation in the game he loves. Truly, a team player. No need for legends to pile on, Joe!

Exactly - who cares what Joe thinks, I'm not a Tebow fanatic.  Look at Namath's career stats.  He had the one game in the Superbowl where he bragged they were going to win and the defense held the other team down enough.  Joe Namath's best was walking around with fur coats and being Broadway Joe.  His career completion percentage was a whopping 50%.  In 13 NFL Season he threw 173 TDs and had 220 interceptions.  In those 13 seasons, he only had two seasons where he barely had more TDs than interceptions.  That one big win Jets put the AFL on the map and other than that Namath is a mediocre overhyped athlete.

And who really cares what Joe thinks? Is he another Jim Brown? Man, why can't these guys ever seem to go away? Must be the after effects of all that hard living and it's affect on the mind. Go home Joe and put on some men's underwear. We'll call you when we need you.

Not a Tebow fanatic, but Joe is being inconsistent and making himself look foolish.

There's no way in hell you can compare Namath's era (when quarterbacks were still men) and today. 2012 rules are more finesse than the Lingerie Bowl (google that brutal hit!). Football stats are the most irrelevant stats in pro sports (QB ratings being the biggest joke), especially when attempting to compare eras. Forget Ben Davidson breaking his jaw, Namath took more hits in his day than any of the queens that play today (save for Roethlisberger, Vick and maybe Eli Manning who receive no league protection). Vicious hits (even 4-5 steps late) were just part of the game. A QB's most valuable asset was simply being tough enough to stay upright, in the game and get the job done, no matter how ugly or gritty. Broadway Joe from Beaver Falls is a winner - on the field, at the bar and with the ladies. That's why he has so many haters.

Namath has the worst stats of any Hall of Fame QB. Losing record, barely 50% completion rate, many more INT's to TD's. He should shut up.  Or maybe he is talking from experience. He knows a bad QB because he was one.

As a Denver fan, and Tebow skeptic I had to suffer through the whole Tebow / Orton drama.  I was excited when Tebow when Tebow got the start  simply because Orton was so terrible.  I would prefer Sanchez over Tebow any day of the week.  With that being said, as much as I hate to admit it, with Tebow, it isn't about stats.  He DOES find a way to win.  At the end of the day, I guess the only stats that should matter are the Win / Loss ones...  But it is so hard to put faith in a guy like Tebow who is probably the worst pocket QB in the league.

Really, I don't see why people  go ballistic about Namath's comments :

All he said was that Tebow need to substantially improve his passing in order to become a starting NFL quarterback, which is obvious to anyone who's got a passing familiarity with the way football is played today, at the top. 

I quote :

"I don’t think he can consistently play the quarterback position as we know it as opposed to the Wildcat without improving his passing accuracy,”

The operative word here being "consistently". I really don't see how one can disagree with that statement.

And Namath's comment is far from being disrespectful of Tebow :

 “You’ve got to be more accurate than that today, and Tim’s got a big motion. He’s working on it, and he can improve it. So that remains to be seen...

Does he say that Tebow sucks ? No. he says Tebow needs to improve.

Does he say that Tebow is a "lost cause" who never will be able to play starter at QB ? No.  he says that remains to be seen.

How can that be construed  as "slamming" Tebow is a mistery.... until of course you remember that titles in that internet age is all about making people mouseclick on it.

The only one "slamming" tebow is the cheap hack who wrote the title.

It's funny you guys are just quoting each other.  

The jets overall winning percentage is 46%, so Namath's is better than that.  

He gave the Jets their ONLY AFC championship and their only Super Bowl victory!  

He gave them their first 11 win season, and it wasn't until 17 years later that they got their next one.

Joe Namath has a career completion percentage of right at 50%, if I am not mistaken he only had a season or two where he threw more TDs than he did interceptions. Joe Namath was a joke at Quarterback and would not make a single NFL roster today. He made a bold prediction and he and his team backed it up. That is all he ever did. He has no right publicly bashing Tebow the way he does, everyone is entitled to an opinion I know but there is no need to put it out in the media the way he does. He is scared to death that Tebow is going to be the Jet that finally makes people forget about his drunk ass!!

I know tebow is not a normal QB and this current set up is probably the way to go, but I am getting really sick of Mr. Namath and his big mouth downing him all the time. 

Joe doesn't want the Jets to win the big game. Simple. Once that happens, he will no longer have any relevancy other than a mediocre QB that one a Superbowl. There are plenty of them already around.

Stats can be very misleading. 

I'm not pulling for Sanchez to get injured but I'd love to see Tebow at QB in a tight situation.  If he does his usual (finds a way to win), the Jets will build a statue of him, then they'll tear it down a few days later when they once more come to the conclusion that he sucks. 

You people bashing Joe Willie by sayign he was bad in his day are clueless. Completely clueless. It was NOT the same game then. Back then defenses could ride a receivers back all the way down the field, face guard, etc. in his day Joe was the best he was a beast and if he'd played in this day and age he'd make today's best QB's (except Payton) look BAD. He was THAT good.

Joe go smoke whatever your smoking old man and quit trying to know it all. Your a one and done nobody likes you. Tebow is a great athlete and quarterback if he had the chance on the right team

I hate to break it to you Tebow lovers, but Namath is right. For all the hard work people talk about.....he still isn't getting better. You keep saying give him time, but after 3 years there still is no improvement in his ability to pass. You couple that with the 15+ he's been a quarterback, and you will come to the conclusion that he won't get better. That is if you stop looking at him with love in your eyes, and start looking at him with the eyes that expect to see improvement. Do that and you'll see that he is severely lacking on the improvement. Which is one reason why John Elway pulled the trigger on trading him. I saw 3 rookie QB's on Sunday that I feel are light years ahead of Tebow when it comes to playing the position. If he is as humble as all of you claim, he would realize that he's not good enough to play QB in the NFL, but he is good enough to play in the NFL. But in his ARROGANCE, he insist on playing QB which will hurt his legacy in the end. I like Tebow he's real good kid, and has the potential to be a good player in the league. But as QB...........He couldn't hit the ocean if he was standing on the bottom.
