NFL to scold Robert Griffin III over concealed Nike logo

Robert Griffin III enjoyed one of the NFL’s best debuts for a rookie quarterback on Sunday, but the NFL isn’t entirely pleased with him.

Griffin wrote “Heart” on the left side of his undershirt worn on the field prior to the Redskins-Saints game on Sunday. Whether or not the personalized message was intended to inspire his game or help one of his marketing partners is up for debate.

The “H” in “Heart” was drawn wide enough to cover the Nike logo. Nike is the NFL’s official apparel provider. Griffin has signed to endorse adidas, Nike’s competitor.

Players are not allowed to cover up Nike’s swoosh, but can wear other brands if they are official NFL licensed providers.

Griffin, like most highly drafted NFL rookies, has been educated on the league’s brand protocols.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told ESPN.com that league officials would talk to Griffin.

“It won’t happen again,” McCarthy said.

Way to not show the pic ( I hear they are worth a thousand words).  Just googled it.  That "H" that covers up the swoosh is rediculous.  It is a terribly sophmoric attempt to cover up the swoosh and actually served to make it stand out more.  He should be fined for going all "Whisky Tango" on that shirt!

Nike has ruined a good portion of the NFL uniforms. Most of them look like High School teams or Arena League uniforms. This is the NFL and tradition is being lost in Translation. Cookie Cutter uniforms have replaced the individual Team designs.

Adidas signed him to the deal knowing that he had to do what he has to do in the NFL. This is all a clever publicity stunt designed to bring awareness to the fact that RGIII is represented by Adidas. Notice, he didn't get fined...he doesn't wake up in the morning thingking 'Man, I signed with Adidas! If I dont represent them properly I dont know if I can play well today. Let me think about the ways I can spite HATED Nike!!!'

Clever ruse, marketing guru's...got my attention

So he covered the Nike logo on his undershirt. I'm surprised he wasn't fined....

If you paid a ton of money to have your brand on something, you'd make darn sure it was visible.  Whether you like Nike or not, they have paid handsomely for their swoosh to show.

Corporate sponsorship once again rears its stupid, ugly head.

Thanks for the assurance, McCarthy.  I'll sleep better at night knowing nike's logo will be visible next week.
