A’s pitcher Brandon McCarthy released from hospital





Oakland A’s pitcher Brandon McCarthy was discharged from the hospital Tuesday, less than a week after being struck in the head by a line drive off the bat of the Angels’ Erick Aybar.
McCarthy underwent emergency brain surgery Wednesday night to repair a fractured skull and stop bleeding around his brain.
McCarthy and his wife, Amanda, broke the news via Twitter:

McCarthy’s recovery was in doubt at times during his hospitalization, but his doctors both said his recovery was sufficient enough to be released.
