Report: Brandon McCarthy released from intensive care unit after injury

Oakland Athletics pitcher Brandon McCarthy has been released from the intensive care unit, four days after suffering a life-threatening injury while being hit in the head with a line drive.

ESPN’s Buster Olney reported that McCarthy was out of the intensive care unit Sunday night:

McCarthy was struck by a line drive while pitching Wednesday. He was taken to a Bay Area hospital, where a CT scan revealed that McCarthy had suffered an epidural hemorrhage, brain contusion and skull fracture. He underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure in his brain.

On Saturday, McCarthy was tweeting once again, joking that “the good news in all of this, is that I set up my fantasy lineups beforehand.”

And Sunday’s positive step seemed to put McCarthy in even better spirits as he responded to Olney’s tweet:
