Bryant McKinnie in Ravens contract dispute

UPDATE: CBS Sports‘ Jason La Canfora reports the Ravens have reached a deal to keep McKinnie in Baltimore.

The Baltimore Ravens may have a hole to fill on their offensive line, just a few days before the start of their season. Then again, they may not. Starting left tackle Bryant McKinnie announced on Twitter earlier today that he was no longer a Baltimore Raven.

Soon after, NFL.com‘s Ian Rapoport tweeted that McKinnie was not leaving the team, but rather that the two sides were locked in negotiations over a restructured contract for the 32-year-old.

Bryant McKinnie isn't retiring, I'm told. Instead, #Ravens want to restructure, two sides are battling. They may waive him. Crazy—

Meanwhile, McKinnie himself propagated the is he/isn’t he question with an array of text messages to various news outlets, including WNST Baltimore and the NFL Network’s Albert Breer:

WNST also reports that the Ravens asked McKinnie to take a pay cut amounting to just about 50% of his current deal, citing doubts about his durability and his ability to say at his playing weight throughout the season.

Drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2002, McKinnie has started 16 games in all but two of his 10 professional seasons and was was named to the Pro Bowl in 2009. He joined the Ravens last year after nine years in Minneapolis.
