Avalanche’s Gabriel Landeskog becomes youngest captain in NHL history
The Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday made second-year winger Gabriel Landeskog the youngest captain in NHL history, at 19 years, 286 days. That makes Landeskog 11 days younger than Sidney Crosby was when he was named Pittsburgh Penguins captain in 2007.
Landeskog replaces Milan Hejduk, who told coaches he wanted to give up the C. (Hejduk and Paul Stastny will serve as alternate captains.)
Landeskog won the Calder Trophy last season as rookie of the year, posting a team-high 22 goals and 52 points while playing in all 82 games. The Swede was the second overall pick in the 2011 draft.
