Clint Dempsey a surprise deadline-day target for Tottenham Hotspur
The future of U.S. Mens National Team forward Clint Dempsey has been under speculation for most of the summer, with Liverpool F.C. the most rumored destination for the Fulham man.
Now, it appears there is a last-minute suitor, according to a tweet from FOX Soccer.

Tottenham have not expressed any interest in Dempsey up until now, but the club would be an ideal fit for Dempsey for numerous reasons. For one thing, Spurs recently sold playmaker Rafael Van Der Vaart to Hamburg in Germany, leaving a spot open in attacking midfield – Dempsey’s ideal position. Tottenham has a strong, attack-minded squad, and a new manager in Andre Villas-Boas that will be open to introducing new players into his system. Moreover, Tottenham is, like Dempsey’s current club Fulham, based in London, so the Texas native would not have to uproot his family with a change in club.
Since moving to Fulham from the New England Revolution in 2006, Dempsey has developed into one of the Premier League’s premier goal scorers. Dempsey scored 23 goals in all competitions for Fulham last year, and is entering the last year of his contract.
