Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro agrees to seven-year deal
The Chicago Cubs agreed to a seven-year deal with shortstop Starlin Castro, which includes a club option for an eighth season in 2020, reports MLB.com. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal is said to be upwards of $60 million.
“I think the fame is already there,” Cubs manager Dave Sveum said last week. “You’re playing in Chicago and are the front-line guy on the Chicago Cubs. I think he’s done well. But obviously when you get that kind of money it’s a whole other (reality) to understand that there is a big responsibility that comes with that kind of money and not get carried away.”
Castro is batting .276, with 12 homers, 63 RBI in 127 games played this season.
