Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is out of the lineup and could be shut down for the remander of the season, reports the Providence Journal.
Ortiz just came off the disabled list because of a strained right Achilles tendon and had two hits in his return to the lineup last night against the Kansas City Royals.
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine says the team’s medical staff does not think that he will re-injure the Achilles.
Ortiz, 36, will be a with free agent this offseason. He is batting .318 with 23 home runs, 60 RBI in 90 games this season.
Oh, and Ortiz will be reevaluated. Sounds like shutting him down for the season is a legitimate possibility.—
