Prince Amukamara injury: Giants CB suffers high right ankle sprain

New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara — already with a reputation for being injury-prone, after missing the first nine games of his rookie season with a broken foot — was carted off the field after suffering a high ankle sprain in the first quarter of Friday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

X-rays showed no fractures, but as many observers have been quick to point out on Twitter, a high-ankle sprain is not a good thing.

Amukamara was injured when he tried to make a low tackle on airborne Bears receiver Brandon Marshall. The 19th overall pick in the 2011 draft, Amukamara was in line for a starting spot after the Giants let Aaron Ross go as a free agent and Terrell Thomas — who missed last season with a torn ACL — reinjured his knee.
