New York Yankees righthander Ivan Nova will miss his next scheduled start, on Sunday, because of what the team calls soreness and stiffness in his throwing shoulder. And according to manager Joe Girardi, Nova could be out longer.

“We don’t think it’s anything too concerning, but we’ve got to make sure,” Girardi said, according to Marc Carig of the Newark Star-Ledger. “Could he be a DL candidate? Possibly. But I won’t know until we get some test results.”

Nova complained about his joint after facing his final batter on Tuesday night in Chicago. “It was something like tight in my shoulder,” Nova said. “That was the first time that I’ve experienced that.” He is scheduled to undergo more testing on Thursday, back in New York.
