Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor is still trying to make a mark in the NFL after being taken last season in third round of the NFL supplemental draft.

Pryor still believes that his Ohio State experience, in which he was suspended and eventually dismissed from the program for taking extra benefits, slowed his learning curve.

“The suspension really screwed me,” Pryor said, via the Bay Area News Group. “The way I came out of college and my mistakes screwed me. But right now, I’m in a good place because I’m learning from the best and I’m only going to get better, a lot better.”

Pryor is currently slotted as the third-string quarterback.

“If I can just keep on figuring out this progression thing and having my internal clock running with my feet, I can be good. I can be great,” Pryor said.

Terrell Pryor clearly recognizes (albeit grudgingly) that HE made a mistake that ultimately led to him screwing up his future. Sure we would like a press conference where people talk about the mistakes they made, and human frailty, and plain old bad decisions, but this is a world class athlete. The overwhelming majority of sports cheats NEVER even come close to owning up and because of that context, Mr. Pryor deserved better than this article. The headline says one thing, but the quote in the article clarifies that he clearly understands that it was 'his mistakes that screwed him'...the kid is like 23 and plays for the Raiders, give him a break.

"... and my mistakes" ... well at least there is a little accountability in there.

"well sure I robbed the bank, but everything was fine til the damn police arrested me."

    john44 7 pts

Why can't this guy take responsibility for his self and admit he made a mistake?

Pretty easy to blame others for everything.

    Lord Cthulhu 6 pts

@john44 Did you actually read the article or just the title? Get your facts before showing how stupid you are.

    lionoah 34 pts

john44 yeah dude, read it again...

I'm always hopeful of a person learning from their mistakes and improving their life. So many people like to see others fail. Some are bitter about something and some are just haters. Much success Mr. Pryor

Terrelle spent three seasons (2008, 2009, 2010) at OSU.  Is he saying the coaching he received at OSU during those 3 years was insufficient to prep him (even with his amazing athletic skills) for the NFL?

If that's true, that a pretty stinging indictment of Jim Tressel's program.

    Ray2 5 pts

Here's another example of how people just don't read. Here's what he said in the article, "The way I came out of college and my mistakes screwed me."  Who else is he blaming for what happened?

As for figuring out his "progressions", most quarterbacks struggle with that in a new system because the plays, the approach and the progressions are different. He showed enough in college to deserve a shot in the pros, which is why he was drafted. If you don't think he can play, don't draft him on your team; otherwise get over it!

Ray2 You don't seem to be much of a reader yourself. I guess you missed the title of the article, "Ohio state suspension screwed me".

    lionoah 34 pts

AlfredMunsell  Ray2 its not so much the reading but the comprehension there buddy. You read it as if he is lamenting being screwed unfairly, when the quote in the article provides clarity and context. Reading comprehension, Mrs. Roach, first grade!

    Pryor,

          You 'SCREWED' yourself dumba$$ !

You were 'NEVER' a true Buckeye it was always just 'about me' not the team !

Hope you get kicked out of the NFL as well !

    clemente21 90 pts

sowildabout I'm sure you were screaming out his name until they got busted on that Tat Scandal...fair weather fan! = D

    lionoah 34 pts

sowildabout He practically says that he screwed himself. The title of the article say the suspension screwed me, and the quote in the report clarifies so that it is clear he regrets making teh mistake. Read it again...and give me a report

Figure out this "progression thing"???   I wonder - if he can figure out how to butter toast he won't have to eat it dry!!!

    RaymondGillette 6 pts

TP could have been a #1 pick had he chose to be a receiver out of high school.  Most colleges told him he would not be a QB but Tressel bent over to sign tp.  TP's biggest blunder was thinking that he could play QB.

     name a better osu qb...u can't

Did anyone bother to read what he actually said?

Loch And why should we care, Sherlock?! ; )

    Jim13 7 pts

Hey Terrell you only have yourself to blame for all your problems. Besides that you are not that good thats why you third string behind an old man at quarterback. Get a life.

    gravedigger187_1974 14 pts

That is because Mr Pryor, you are a major rulebreaking JACKOFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    yohan feelin 7 pts

also, they NEVER would have kicked tp off the team if he really won.  thing was he just, at the end of the day, wasn't a great qb, never could win the big games or get them over the hump.

    MattBrown 6 pts

yohan feelin He seemed to do OK against Michigan.

    Mike18 5 pts

@yohan feelin 31-5 as a starter. 3-0 against meat-chicken. Beat Oregon in the Rose Bowl and Arkansas in the Sugar. Sounds like he won some big games to me.

    lionoah 34 pts

yohan feelin I tend to agree. He wasn't really doing anything that every OSU team hasn't ever done. We win on talent, but a championship is won on exceptional talent or coaching. Frankly, we didn't have either...Glad a change was made and what a change it was ; )

in 3 years at florida under meyer 30+ players were arrested.  No doubt they were all innocent.  Going to be fun to see what he does at osu, they threw tressel under the bus, wait till meyer starts recruiting "his guys" ---criminals.

    gravedigger187_1974 14 pts

I live in Orlando and know ppl personally who went to UF. Meyer would take speeding tickets into the dean and have security guards written up for writing tickets the the football players. One ticket was for 95 in a 15. THen when all his STUDS left or got thrown out of school, he all of a sudden had heart problems and had to resign. Just wait OSU alum he will destroy a once great program

    sowildabout 7 pts

You mean like the Michigan RB who just got arrested ?

    weatherspoonr12 6 pts

yohan feelin Yohan feelin, no one threw Jim Tressel under the bus, he got what was coming to him for turning his back on Maurice Clarette and hanging that kid out to dry, so what goes around comes around I'm pretty sure you've heard of it before. Terrell Pryor will be fine, but only if he's allowed the necessary time to develop and continues to get good tutelage, give him 2 more years and a lot of people are going to eat their cruel words.

YOU screwed YOURSELF. Stop playing the "victim" card and MAN UP. Take responsibility for your own actions. The suspension was due to YOUR improper actions. BOO effing HOO

    lionoah 34 pts

JohnHillman It is apparent you are not the shiniest apple in the bunch. If you read the article again, MAYBE just maybe you will see that he is taking responsibility for his actions...

Ohio state screws a lot of jocks by not making sure they can read and write, after the career is done and they cant get a job then they know what i am talking about.

    BurghfaninCincy 8 pts

I hate this passive voice "my mistakes screwed me" kind of stuff, as if the mistakes were a separate entity from one's self.  Pryor, you screwed yourself.  Now act like an adult, recognizing that you've never had to do that before in your coddled jock life, say, I messed up", and perhaps someday we'll regard you as more than just another college system QB.

    lionoah 34 pts

BurghfaninCincy Wonder how clever and mature you were at 23 with the whole world watching and everyone telling you that you are the best thing since sliced bread? Dude made a mistake, owned up to it and is talking about improving himself... you need a handwritten apology and 30 lashes too?

    Robert Cox 7 pts

    Dear Terrelle,

You screwed you. Your suspension was a direct result of you screwing yourself.

    Regards,

    Terelle

    poppat 8 pts

The suspension screwed him? he screwed his team by what he did there.

    Craig 58 pts

Two things pop out in this story.  At first, it seems like he wants to play the victim, although he manages to admit that "his mistakes" were part of the problem.

The second thing is the statement "figuring out this progression thing" makes it sound like he'd never conceived of the idea of a progression, the idea where you check receivers in a particular order, based upon who should be open if the first guy isn't.  For a pro quarterback, or somebody from a good college program, that shouldn't be a foreign idea.  Heck, most high school quarterbacks understand the concept.

    lionoah 34 pts

Craig Craig, the entire article is maybe 2 paragraphs, how ever could you deduce that he has no clue of what a progression is? I mean, he has played pro ball for a year and college ball for 3...please share your wisdom kimosabi...

    clemente21 90 pts

Well, thanks for admitting that you screwed yourself.  Could have done w/out the visual though, Mr. Tattoo!

Are we STILL blessed with the ongoing issues of Terrelle? Get real...move on from this clown-around child.

    Gabriel 6 pts

James18 i wonder if you made any mistakes or bad decisions when you were 20

    Robert Cox 7 pts

Gabriel  James18 20? A question is punctuated with a question mark, which you mistakenly omitted. This is otherwise known as a mistake. Hypocrite.

He was actually making a statement, not a question, so no question mark should have been placed there.
