Report: Cowboys Jason Witten won’t need surgery

Doctors informed Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten that he will not need surgery for his lacerated spleen, reports ESPN.com.

Witten injured his spleen in a preseason game against the Oakland Raiders and was told that he would need 7-10 days rest and then would be evaluated later.

Witten is questionable to start the season opener Sept. 5 against the defending world champions, the New York Giants.

Witten has missed one game in his career because of a broken jaw suffered when he was a rookie in 2003.
