Report: Bills to release Shawne Merriman today

The Buffalo Bills were anxious to see an oft-injured Shawne Merriman compete at full speed this summer. Apparently, the defensive end’s recovery from shoulder and Achilles surgeries were not enough.

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer tweeted the Bills have informed Merriman that he will be released today.

Merriman’s once promising NFL career shifted to Buffalo after the Chargers released him in 2010 after six seasons, including 39.5 sacks in his first three NFL years.

Merriman has recorded five sacks in the last four seasons.
