Miami Dolphins quarterback David Garrard injured his knee recently and will have surgery on Saturday, reports multiple sources.

According to CBSSports.com, a source who was with Garrard on Wednesday night said the quarterback “was walking normally and appeared perfectly fine.”

Garrard’s agent, Albert Irby, said the quarterback should be out 2-4 weeks.

This puts the quarterback race in Miami up for grabs. Garrard was listed number one on the depth chart, with veteran Matt Moore and rookie Ryan Tannehill fighting for reps.

Garrard did not play in 2011 because of a bad back and last played with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He signed a one-year contract in March with the team.  Miami will start their preseason tonight at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
