The former Oklahoma State star was taken by Cleveland with the No. 22 pick in the NFL Draft. Weedon, 28, is older than most rookies because he spent five years playing minor league baseball. Because of his age, it was important for Weedon to become a starter early in his career.
“I don’t take any rep for granted,” Weedon said, according to a tweet by The Plain Dealer‘s Mary Kay Cabot. “I didn’t take the approach it was going to be my job from day one.”
Weedon beat out Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace for the position. He becomes the third rookie to win his team’s starting quarterback job already this season. The Colts’ Andrew Luck and Redskins’ Robert Griffin III will also start.
