Eli Manning: Giants aren’t a dynasty

Michael Vick said in July that he thinks his Philadelphia Eagles “have a chance to develop a dynasty.”

Giants quarterback Eli Manning, despite bringing New York two Super Bowls in the past five years, said on Wednesday that even his G-men aren’t deserving of this kind of consideration.

When asked by NFL AM whether the Giants are a dynasty, Manning said the Giants  “have potential to be a playoff team,” but there’s still a lot of work to be done:

“No, no, we are not,” Manning said. “We had a little break and the two years prior to last year we didn’t make the playoffs. We have work to do. [W]e have good players on this team. We have potential to be a playoff team and make a run once we get into the playoffs. It’s a matter of going out there and proving that, and everybody playing to their level of play.”

The team with the most recent claim at dynasty status is the New England Patriots, who won three Super Bowls and five conference championships since 2001 under quarterback Tom Brady. The Giants, who defeated the Patriots in both of New York’s two  most recent Super Bowl victories, would have to win another title this year to enter into that conversation. The Eagles, meanwhile, haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1960.
