Report: Carlos Quentin signs three year, $27 million Padres extension

Carlos Quentin is off the San Diego Padres’s trading block. CBS Sports‘ John Heyman reported earlier in the day that the Padres had reached an agreement on a contract extension with the power-hitting outfielder – one that will keep him in San Diego for the next three years for a total of about $27 million.

FOX Sports‘ Jon Morosi tweeted that the deal is official, and that the contract contains a mutual option for a fourth year at the end of the contract.

Quentin has been among San Diego’s star performers this season, hitting .273 with nine home runs and 22 RBI. He was expected to be traded by the Padres in the midst of the team’s transfer of ownership, but the front office was able to secure funding for the contract from both the current and potential owners of the club.
