Report: Brooklyn Nets in trade discussions for Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard

NBA

The Brooklyn Nets have been linked to the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard throughout the past season, but when the team agreed to acquire Atlanta Hawks guard Joe Johnson on Monday, it appeared to finally be out of the picture.

But late Monday night, news broke that Brooklyn was still in contention for Howard, and now, it appears the two teams have resumed trade discussions, reports ESPN.com‘s Chris Broussard.

“The Nets and the Orlando Magic are discussing a trade that would send Howard to the Nets for Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and the Nets’ first-round picks in 2013, 2015 and 2017, sources said. Lopez and Humphries, who are both free agents, would go to Orlando in sign-and-trade deals.”

Yahoo! Sports writer Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Tuesday morning that a third team would be necessary to complete the deal.

It appears nothing is imminent, and there could be others offers on the table that are more attractive to the Magic. The Lakers could offer center Andrew Bynum, or the Hawks could offer center Al Horford and guard Jeff Teague. It’s not known whether these teams have made those offers, though. The Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks are also reportedly interested in Howard.

But the acquisition of Howard would give Brooklyn a Big Three of its own that could move it into the top half of the Eastern Conference.
