Report: New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur likely to become free agent

NHL

New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur, a four-time winner of the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goaltender, will likely become a free agent this offseason, reports TSN’s Darren Dreger on Twitter.

If the 40-year-old Brodeur left the Devils, it would be a stunning move. The goalie has spent his entire 19-year career with New Jersey.

The Devils would also seem to offer Brodeur a strong opportunity to close his career out with another Stanley Cup. The Devils advanced to the finals this season, falling to the Los Angeles Kings.

Brodeur was reportedly considering retirement, but in the aftermath of the loss to the Kings, it appeared Brodeur would return for another season. The expectation was that he would stay with the Devils.

Brodeur ranks first all-time with 119 shutouts and 656 wins. He has led the Devils to three Stanley Cup titles.
