Schmitz’s colleague, Josh Robbins, detailed on Thursday the pros and cons of Nelson’s decision. In essence, Nelson has opted to hit free agency at age 30 in search of one last payday rather than waiting until he turns 31.
The Magic drafted two post players (St. Bonaventure’s Andrew Nicholson and Norfolk State’s Kyle O’Quinn) on Thursday, leaving a gaping hole at the point. Chris Duhon is the only lead guard Orlando has under contract.
