The 2007 Hart Trophy winner missed the final 41 games of the 2010-11 season with concussion symptoms and played only 22 games last year with lingering symptoms. Despite that, he still finished with eight goals and 29 assists.
The Crosby deal sets up Penguins center and reigning Hart Trophy winner Evgeni Malkin, who will be up for a new contract at the end of next season.
