Danny Ferry may be back in the driver’s seat of an NBA team soon. Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Atlanta Hawks have offered their general manger position to Ferry, with the two sides currently engaged in “serious” talks to that end.

Ferry, currently the vice president of basketball operations for the San Antonio Spurs, was the Cleveland Cavaliers’ general manager from 2005 to 2010, presiding over the team’s best regular season performances in their history. Ferry had also been in negotiations for the same position with the Philadelphia 76ers in recent weeks, but the Hawks have emerged as the frontrunner.

Ferry would replace current Hawks GM Rick Sund, whose contract expires after this year’s NBA Draft and has been leaning toward retirement.
