Report: Los Angeles Lakers guard Ramon Sessions declines option

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Ramon Sessions, who was acquired in a midseason trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers, has declined his player option and will become a free agent, reports the Los Angeles Times‘ Mike Bresnahan.

Point guard Ramon Sessions will not exercise a player option to stay with the Lakers and will become a free agent, The Times has learned.

There's a chance Sessions returns to Lakers after testing free agency, but no guarantee. It's a break-up for now, not yet a divorce.

The 26-year-old Sessions’ option was for $4.5 million for next year. He now seeks a multi-year deal.

In his time with the Lakers, Sessions fit in well. He averaged 12.7 points and 6.2 assists in 23 regular season games, but in the playoffs, his production dropped. In 12 postseason games, he averaged only 9.7 points and 3.6 assists.

Deron Williams, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash and Andre Miller are part of a deep group of experienced point guards who could be free agents this summer. Sessions and the Lakers should each have plenty of options going forward.
