As the Oklahoma City Thunder enter the crucial third game of the 2012 NBA Finals, a report from Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reveals that head coach Scott Brooks turned down a three-year, $11 million contract extension earlier in the season. Brooks is now in the last year of his current contract.
According to the report, Brooks, his agent and the Thunder set aside negotiations until after the playoffs, with the Thunder wanting to wait and see how the team performed under pressure before negotiating a compromise for a longer-term deal or more money. Since then, Brooks has led his young team to the NBA Finals, eliminating the formidable trio of the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, and San Antonio Spurs along the way.
